Fabia vRS - becoming a "classic"?

Featured Replies

Wanted to know what people think - now that there are no more new Fabia vRS's being made, and given the inherent engine longevity and economy of "Derv-Drive" is it likely that the Fabia vRS will become a desireable "classic" car?

Has this already started to happen in the UK?

:D

Errrrrm, nah i doubt it Bas :P

A car has to have that certain something to be a classic and I dont think the fabia has that.

I actually hope not, at least not in the next ten years...I want to be able to afford to buy a decent one!

Nah doubt it..

Personally think its heading for Saxo status myself

Nah i don't think so either.

Maby 20 years down the line like the MK2 Golf GTI!

I can't see it happening to be honest. It's a good little diesel, but most classics get their status by being gorgeous car. The fabia, much as I like mine, is a little bland in the looks department.

Nope. Too many were made. The car isn't that good. But then again stranger things have happened...

Yeah Peugeot 306 D Turbo :D. Here's a thread I started asking the same thing. I do think that it will get like the old Pug D Turbo where they get to about 10 years old and people will still pay silly money for them.

Thanks - I did search for a similar thread.

So another 10-15 years, provided WW3 doesn't get in the way.....

i think it stands a chance, after all it was the first diesel hot hatch, and how many other cars have this many threads on a forum about them?

You think you'll be allowed to drive something as agricultural as a PD diesel in 15 yrs?

Very true.

People always get the shock when you tell them... still!

allowed - no.

would I do it - yes :D

hang on - in 15 years' time I'll be too old to drive anything!

TBH as long as I like it I will drive it. I actually like the tractor noise. It's part of the character of the car.

I reckon 15 years or so it will hit classic status. There are loads of cars out there from the 80's that are classics now and they were mass built - 205 GTi, Golf GTi etc.The Skoda Rapid Coupe, Cabriolet and Sport models are now classics too, as are the other older rear engined Skoda models. And look how the Ford Fester XR2and Escort XR3i have gained classic status - though God only knows why!

I see what you are saying, but I think you have confused cult followings and old age with classic.

205 GTi Yes

Mk1 Golf GTi Yes

XR2 and XR3i I dont see, perhaps RS16i or Series 1 turbo.

And as for skodas, i think you'd find very few outside of the skoda forums/community actually appreciate it and 90% of people will crack a heated rear windscreen or skip joke.

allowed - no.

Actually you'll probably allowed to drive anything you like, it'll be the likes of us in Blighty who get forced away from petrol/diesel.

As I said on the earlier thread, I think the Fabia has a cult following but I doubt it will be a classic car.

Seat Ibiza Sport PD130 was out on a 02 plate ;) vRS on a 03 plate? Sorry lads :D

but there was a petrol equivelent, the fabia was the first dedicated ,where it was the only sports varient in the range;)

Yes, but not in the usual/normal way. I mean this by when you analyse the car and all that it offers in the way of price, cost to run, looks, 'fun factor' potential to be moddied, maintainability and the inherent VAG group build quality. IMO, this is a sort of modern-day diesel hot hatch classic.

It surely has to be considered, if not now then in the future.

Totally agree with this comment.

A bloke at work (who i actually despise) tried the 'heated rear window' joke the other day in front of a few mutual friends, none of which even s******ed so i got my wallet out, handed my mate £20 and said 'if his Vauxhal Omega keeps up with my Skoda, he can have that note' and the bloke walked off looking at the floor while my mates laughed at him.

That was the last time we spoke funnily enough

People just can't get past the stigma of Diesels i general, and to own a Skoda with a diesel engine

Un-educated fools ;)

Yeah, it's half the fun of the fair - proving them wrong!

Bad times again, as in 2002 the top model for the Seat Ibiza MK4 was infact the diesel, it was the only sports varient in the range, until they changed the PD130's shell to the FR, and brought out the FR 20vT aswell, and in turn the Cupra TDi and 20vT, so for 2 years it was just what the vRS was.

Still the first hot hatch diesel by your own standards, not our fault they whent out and made a faster diesel for the Cupra or even a petrol model after!

You could argue the Pug 205 D Turbo was an earlier diesel hot hatch.

Would you not have called the Citroen ZX Turbo D Volcane the first diesel hot hatch? I'm sure I recall it getting a What Car car of the year award or at least a category winner?
