Watermarking Images

Featured Replies

Anyone got/know of any good little tools for this, preferably free if possible :P

you can do it in photobucket, by adding an opaque layer then writing the text on that layer

Thanks Ed.

In truth I am rubbish when it comes to that type of thing but I have a man that does the template for me. I have a new CMS type thing which will hopefully make things easier for me as I only have to fill in the gaps.

It's very early days and there are still some tweaks to be made to the layout but you can see the bit I have been working on here - VCDS (VAG-COM) | Octavia-VRS.com

It was Uwe at Ross Tech that suggested I should watermark the images to stop people stealing them and I have had problems in the past.

i've seen my pictures turning up all over the place on the net by people claiming they belong to them.. it is a little bit annoying..

it's even cheekier when they link straight into my photobucket page

There is a guy who regularly links to my MFD2 install for his eBay sales.

you should change the picture he links into to a picture of margaret thatcher or something... that's what i do when i see people doing it to my pictures

 He doesn't link to the picture, he links to the entire guide!!

Stu, there is a line you can add to your .htaccess files that prevent hotlinking of images, if that helps...

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?yourdomain.com(/)?.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpeg|png|bmp|jpg)$ /images/humiliatingimage.gif [L,NC]

If you want to show an alternate image (like an advert for your site or something) replace /images/humiliatingimage.gif with the link the the image you want to display. If you don't want to display an image at all then just delete the final line.

If you want a free editor then the GIMP is a good free photoshop clone.

Add direct link to windows pages.

nah change the picture to a crappy tape deck mono radio  or even better to a male private organ.

see if you can get some completeley different pics stu when you re do the site so those currently being nicked show something like a mk 1 fiesta

Hehe, yes they have cut &pated the whole guide verbatim including the image links. The guide will be useless without them, so when you have completed your site redesign make sure the new guide is placed into a different folder and delete the original images and they will have some nice red x's in their place.

If you add the html code posted earlier to your current guide pages then the current image hotlinks will also become invalid.

ahem;)

I have a different way of dealing with these.

It is..

Send a copyright infringement notice to the sites ISP and have it taken down. If they want to outright lie and copy everything including your disclaimer, then they don't deserve any nice treatment.
