Superchips remap and fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Am thinking about getting an SC remap, and have been reading that fuel consumption is better after this - Now this seems to be the perfect bit of ammo I need to get it past SWMBO :D so I was wondering just how much better it is. I do 600-800 miles per week in my PD170 vRS :( so maybe it's worth the £500 for the remap? (Although I guess if I've got more power, then I'll no doubt be using it and therefore cancel out any gains in fuel economy....). Can anyone tell me realistically what the gains would be?

:D I would expect so too - would like to know about the fuel consumption though - if I could make a saving over time, then it's got to be worth it - at least that's what I'll tell the wife ;)

As an ex police area car driver blah blah blah....

It also should increase torque which results in faster and safer overtakes. By faster, I mean that the amount of time you are exposed to oncoming vehicles is lessened. It also could be said that by having the ability to despatch those that do not wish to make progress on our highways when you see fit, you are no longer forced to wait for longer gaps and striaghts, which also reduces tension.

swmbo also finds taht I sometimes dawdle on a quiet road, having the ability to almost instantly revert to warp speed once I feel the need, no need to retain momentum all the time...

My fuelconsumption went up after installing SC.

Fact is, I have been driving much faster after installing it :D

On long hauls over the autobahn it use more, up to 1-1.5 litre per 100km, but you will be driving much faster. What used to be 160-190 km/h will now be 180-220 km/h. (when traffic and laws admit).

Up to (depending on which mapping, see my other post) 120 - 140 km/h you will slightly gain, after that you will loose (but with a big :D )

I think that would probably be the problem.....with a 100 mile commute to work I don't hang about already, and if I can get there any faster then it is quite likely that I'll try...

I saw an article in Diesel car a while ago about a remapped Seat Leon 170 TDI the standard car was dyno'd about 178BHP IIRC and after the remap it was showing 214BHP and wheel spining in third gear on dry roads .....

And even more importantly - 300lb/ft torque :D

VRS TDI is very quick with the Bluefin.

You will only ever see better MPG if you are taking it steady of course. Use the new found power and the figures will be a fair bit lower than usual!

Previous TD and TDi cars I have had remapped showed an improvement of 2 - 3 mpg on my typical daily driving. I always use a fair amount of the available performance and frequent full throttle accelerations; so that's a real world gain.

Its mostly due to the increased torque allowing you to use a higher gear in most situations.

Have you had the recently issues Recall 26E6 for the DPF's exhaust gas pressure sensor and ECU remap? Details are in this thread for reference;- http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/vrs-pd-170-engine-management-software-disk-part/120394/

If you haven't, get it done before you show the car to Superchips so that they can put the correct remap into your ECU.

I had the 26E6 remap done earlier this week and I have today booked my car into Superchips HQ in Buckingham, for 10 days time, so that they can read the 26E6 map, modify it and install their upgrade with the benefit of using their rolling road before and after to get it right! After that they will have the files on their database to give you the correct map (using BlueFin).

good luck in your discussions with SWMBO. ;)

Mine has still done 61mpg on a 15 mile town to town (+ motorway) run

I couldn't agree more.If you're a car enthusiast and you've got more power you're going to use it.:):):)
