Which Octavia am I looking for?

Featured Replies

At least fit the zorst before the remap, obviously every time you mod the car to get the best you need to tweak the map.

If yopu get it all done by one company they will have your base map & will be hopefully sympathetic cost wise when the map neads a tweak

Re "Will I need monitoring gear LAMBDA LINK, KNOCKLINK and BOOST GUAGE as you do with Subaru's" Subarus need it all to TRY & STOP them going pop but they still do Skodas dont

Re Preferences I chose jabba & am very happy with the results but I have no axe to grind with any other tuning company (except a certain Jap specialist in Aldershot)

Speak to them all, trawl Briskoda for views & go with who you are happiest with, just one tip, get fixed prices for all work, the

Right here's the next stupid question. There is a VRS Estate isn't there? Is it the same performance as the saloon version? Also, are they 4WD as the 1.8T Elegance is and if not why not surely the performance Octavia's would be better as 4WD with the added power and torque?

How common are the VRS Estates and how much do they go for second hand...what about the 1.8T estate?

Aaquil

Now you really are asking some stupid questions - have you looked at the Skoda website at all ?! ;) Used car search, different model specs etc.

The bottom line is that all 1.8T Octavias from later 2001 on have the 'same' engine (ECU tuneable to identical results) and you can only buy one model with 4wd here - the 4x4 Elegance.

You can't buy a 4x4 vRS - and that's why we have had some many firendly debates between the fwd vRS owners and 4x4 owners

Thanks for the reply...Wouldn't the 4WD be a lot better at planting the power down on a highly tuned Octavia than the FWD?

If I want to tune I'd be better off with the 1.8T Elegance then wouldn't I?

Apart from the brakes and the suspension and the bodykit and the seats and the steering wheel etc. etc... (Just answering for the vRS boys :D )

As to your first question, I refer to Rob's remarks on the Mother of All Friendly Briskoda Debates...

I appreciate that the vRS looks very nice but I am talking about dynamics and is a good base car if you not going to go mad on mods.

You didn't answer my question...would not the 4WD be better at planting the power than the FWD vRS in the case of a highly tuned Octavia. Bearing in mind that I will be getting uprated suspension and OZ Superleggera alloys.

I do not intend to offend anyone or get in that debate because I am in no position to do so...I own a J-Reg Legacy Turbo which is nothing special at all. But being 4WD I appreciate its benefits especially if the car is tuned.

Thanks for all the replies

A highly tuned 300hp Octavia?

I suppose you could say there is no other way than AWD for getting the power down, but then there are FWD ETCC saloons with close to 300 hp - it's just a matter of finesse.

Apart from that there's the question of the 4x4's Haldex system, driveshafts and gearbox being able to cope with the torque associated with 300 hp power. But Stuart already talked you through those earlier...

So a FWD car might be less complicated and expensive to upgrade. But you would be on the TC in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, most probably, whereas the 4x4 would give better traction. It's all a matter of taste and budget, really.

I'm not helping you here, aren't I? :D

Of course you are your input is really appreciated. Like Stuart said I am looking for 250BHP really. Where I live it rains most of the time so I want the security of 4WD and to be able to get all that power down...if you see what I mean.

Right guys apparently the 1.8T Elegance estate 4WD goes 0-60MPH in 9.8s or something like that. After Jabba chip and other mods to get to around 260BHP what kind of 0-60 times am I looking at?

Anyone got any input to my last 2 replies? Please.

not as quick as the car in "testing" post. :D

If I use Jon's (TaviaRS) "old" RS as a point of reference, you'd be looking at around 6secs and perhaps below.

Jon's an "average driver";) and managed 5. something in his RS... I think it was running a Superchip at the time so would have been, perhaps, less than when it was Jabba-ed (230bhp-ish).

4X4 has shorter gearing but you have to offset that with the weight of the 4x4 running gear.

I think 250 bhp is fairly easy to achieve.....one of our members had the remap, sport dp/cat and boost controller from Jabba and was figured at 255bhp. Some of our REVOed members with 4bar FPR have been getting around 250bhp.

Thanks for all the help guys...with the 250BHP will I need an uprated clutch and lightened flywheel and if so what benefit will that bring. I have and Impreza STi clutch on my 260BHP Legacy Turbo and I think it is a bit of overkill.

  • Author

Anyone?

Anyone?
Read this thread. The standard clutch and flywheel are designed to cope with 180bhp. Many members have tuned their engines considerably beyond that figure and the majority of those have had no problems with clutch and flywheel. However there have been some clutch failures and, if I tuned my car to 250bhp, I would definitely invest in a performance clutch and flywheel.

Thanks a lot for that...the advice is appreciated.

Do modified Octavia estates (ie lowered, aftermarket alloy wheels, ss exhaust and SUBTLE window tints) attract a lot of attention? Are they stolen or hijacked of left alone due to lack of being 'sought after' and badge snobbery?

I am trying to say a EVO or IMPREZA well you'll always be looking over your shoulder and worried if it get stolen. What is the case with a OCTAVIA can you tend to leave them anywhere even if the are and LOOK MODIFIED.

What about Insurance? An Octavia Estate modified to say 260BHP what kind of Insurance am I looking for and how would it compare to an IMPREZA or EVO. Last year when I Insured my car I spoke to one Insurance company and they stated any high performance car in the same/similar league to an Evo or Impreza will be a lot less to Insure due to the number of them stolen and written off by Richard Burns wannabe's

Any comment or input please

Any advice regards my last posted reply...PLEASE.

Don't want to sound rude Aaquil, but have a search against insurance on here to find your answers. Does your legacy estate attract attention ? Neither does a 4x4 Octavia!

  • Author

Thanks mate and no you are not being rude at all...I am probably being lazy. I appreciate the advice.
