heater problem fabia vrs

Featured Replies

basically my heater controls have stopped working the fan operates but i got no air con no recirculation and i am unable to change the temp from hot or cold i am going to put the car into an auto electrics but thought that its worth a try on here first as someone may be able to point me in the right direction all replys are apretiated thanx

When you say that you can't change the temperature - do you mean the controls turn but have no affect or that the controls are jammed? I had a jammed control kn*b for the air flow direction and this required a new heater box which cost about £600 to get fixed due to the two day's labour it took to strip the dash to get at it.

u turn it and it doesnt work its seems as if there is a live missing to the recirculation aircon and heater control the fan works coz it runs off a diffrent fuse all the fuses are ok

with the ricirc, do you mean the button is pressed and the light doesn't work or it works and flickers off? this problem sounds like a sensor that goes up high in the drivers footwell above the elec control unit and the heat option really needs vag com test ran as there are 2 sensors in the system (if my memory serves me right:p) that i have replaced in the past to cure this problem.

I have exactly the same problem with my 2001 Fabia. The fan speed works but nothing else. I turn the temperature gauge and the temperature stays the same. Aircon and Re-circulate buttons do not work or light up, in fact I have lost the backlight on the heater controls.

I checked every single fuse at the dash end and all were fine - someone suggested to try the other fuses on top of the battery but I haven't found time yet.

Techbob may have the cure ?

Sounds like the control unit has failed. a VAG COM test would be a good start, also pop the unit out and check the live and earths on the back.

Update: Skoda had my car for it's 30k service and to have this problem investiagted. I wish I hadn't have bothered. Their investigation only ammounted to checking for fault codes (there were none) and they said they would need the car back to investigate further. Hardly the thorough investigation I was looking for.

Anyhow they suggested the heater control module could be faulty (or power issue with it) and told me how expensive a replacement part would be - £600 or something. I suggested getting one from a scrap car and they said I would have to get the exact one and it will then need programming to the car - can anyone confirm this?

How do I remove the heater control module to check power supply / part number ??

Cheers :(

IGNORE my message above - there is now a very useful 'stuck' post in the Technical Guides describing / showing what to do. Thanks.
