Audi TT (Tall Tale) TDI

Featured Replies

So, I opened the November issue of Autocar and on the first two pages is an advert for the new Audi TT TDI, The World's First 53mpg Sports Car, no less:

Well, it does do a 'sporty' 0-62 in 7.5sec.

And 53mpg!

Blimey.

But, hang on, when Autocar tested the Fabia vRS, it hit 60 in 7.3sec and returned a combined figure of 52.3mpg: Fabia-vrs.com - Autocar October 2004

Oh, so close.

But hang on again.

The Audi stats state Combined 51.4 - 53.3, an average of 52.35mpg.

Way to round-up there Audi!

Let's round it down.

So, then, the The World's First 52.3mpg Sports Car is actually slower 0-60 and equally economical as a standard Furb.

I tell you, Skoda missed the boat when they marketed the vRS.

I guess it was and still is the The World's First 52.3mpg Sports Car/Super Mini. ;)

You can hardly class a fabia as a 'sports car' though...

And personally, i dont believe a 'standard' vrs will do 0-60 in 7.3 secs, unfortunately...

How would you define the term 'sports car'?

Are you calling the Autocar journos a bunch of no-good fibbers?

I think an Audit TT comes close. it's all about the driving experiance rather than the claimed on paper speed.

The Fabia is a shopping trolly. Get over it. The VRS is a shopping trolly with more plastic, big wheels and the engine from a bigger car. Get over it.

They are renowned for spouting carp just like the rest of them. 7.3 seconds is NOT standard. It will be lucky to break 8. I have a feeling that might have been one of the "special" skoda cars.

They were when they tested the MK1 Octy vRS.

I think the official figures for the fabia vrs is 9.3 seconds from 0 to 60mph.

To be fair they do quote these figures with 2 people, a bag and half a tank.

What would you ned to do to a vRS to get a 0-60 speed of 7.3 seconds? Is just a remap enough?

Well, subjectively, mine sure feels like a sports car.

Ooh, you take that back.

But thanks for your helpful advice.

I am just about over it already!

Are you a psychotherapist by any chance?

Spouting carp?

Sure beats pingpong balls.

This 'feeling' you have, is it like a Spidey-Sense?

What lies did they make up about it?

Some V-Power Diesel should about do it.

Yeah, but the 'official' BHP of both the ASZ and Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato engines is '130'.

The former IIRC regularly kicks out 140ish and the latter 150ish.

Who's to say the two people weren't Sumo wrestlers and the bag my obese mother-in-law?

And even half a tank is likely to weigh several tonnes.

You trolling for the sake of it?

IIRC some Skoda dealers were showing that article they did on the Fabia vRS to any would-be buyers, correct me if i'm wrong?

The vehicle they tested was chipped, and they made no mention of it, I think the car actually ended up being owned by someone on here, if you do a search I think the thread is still about somewhere.

Is this thread actually comparing a audi tt, to a skoda fabia?! Lol, im a big fabia vrs fan boy, but even to me thats a little silly lol. Its not just about straight line speed, its about the whole package, so what even if the fabia DID keep with the tt to 60, once you get to a corner, its gonna be in a hedge lol. Apart from the fact, i suspect the diesel tt will sell to people who want the looks, and fun of a sports car, with out the running costs, its not about speed to these people.

However, in the first post, i do agree, skoda did miss the boat when it come to advertising the vrs.

Can't comment either way.

Except to say that I can't comment either way. :)

Well...

HellFire originally suggested the car was remapped: http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/remapped-fabia-vrs-review/20906/#post263616

But even he later thought better of it:

http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/remapped-fabia-vrs-review/20906/2/#post273796

and

http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/remapped-fabia-vrs-review/20906/2/#post273804

Another Briskodian was getting 7.5secs for 0-60:

http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/furby-vrs-recent-mag-review/59249/#post670589

Naturally, he was flamed, but came back with:

http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/furby-vrs-recent-mag-review/59249/#post670942

Slightly OT, HellFire also wrote an excellent review of a remapped vRS:

Really? I wasn't aware that I had come across bitter about anything. Good luck in trying to best it

Well you are mildly entertaining if nothing else :rofl:

OK, then. how about this... as you ended that challenge with an emoticon denoting sarcasm, it would appear that you actually think I do not need any luck in besting your comments.

That you unintentionally shot yourself in the foot poignantly underscores how right you are. :tongue2:

Better luck next time.

'Mildly' will do for me! :o

Your conclusion falls pray to shortcomings inherently displayed in this chosen media. A persons emotion and tone is often missed in this format causing the intended message to be somewhat clouded.

You nearly got there though. Better luck next time

Please try to keep the thread on track.

However, the same engine was found in a supermini in 2002, and that was in a Ibiza. So infact even by your own standards, the fabia wasnt the worlds first.
