Audi TT (Tall Tale) TDI

Featured Replies

Cracking entertainment this thread.... keep up the good work chaps

Based on some of the logic going on I'm wondering if a VW Sharan with a 1.9TDI (130bhp) would give the A Teams van a run for its money, let alone a TT.

Also I wonder what 0-60 time the TT would get in the hands of the Autocar Test team ????

is the tt 4wd??

That was the Mk1 TT, so the comment isn't relevant to the Mk2 TT TDi.

Steve

And then there's this: Audi TT TDI Quattro review | New Car Reviews - Times Online

It seems the TT TDI really can't shake off its heritage:

"Suddenly a queue of cars appeared in front, and my chum, who was driving, lifted his foot off the accelerator. In that instant the TT tried to throw us off the road..."

;)

And, interestingly, the reviewer says the car is not of the sporting variety:

"This is a significant point: the TT may be faintly sporting in character but despite Audi’s protestations, a sports car it ain’t, whether it be powered by diesel, petrol or anything else."

Sure is.

Fabia != Sports Car

is the tt 4wd??

Not all MKII TT's are, the TFSI are FWD but the 3.2, TDI and TTS are 4wd. My mate who has test driven both reckons there isn't much benefit of 4wd in them

I'm not so sure.

The Mk 2 TT TDI has an even bigger spoiler: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/upload/8858/images/02AudiTT-TDI-review.jpg

Go figure! ;)

Yep has got a wing/spoiler it pops up at about 70mph, don't think it is anything to do with dodgy handling thou. Handles very sweetly:D

My mates SWMBO has a TFSI one, and I've had I good drive in it.

My VRS is sporter though:rofl:

The interior of my VRS is much nicer place to be, none of the plain plastic of the TT

Did you get a different VRS to everyone else? There is nothing but plain plastic. What do you have??

You get leather dash trim in the TT

Fair enough, but what was the Ibiza's 0-60 time?

That is contingent on your answer to the above, but, just in case, I'm penning a new letter to Mr Audi right now. :D

Thanks for the thanks, first one ever!

The Ibiza's time as it was the older sports box was the same as the fabia in the book, but dont think they ever tested is, however same engine, same platform, same gearbox + a tad lighter doesnt take alot to work it out :) Id say the same.

Pen that letter, about the Punto, yeah glad they checked up on that, as that was out YEARS after the Ibiza haha!

Yep that's the one I've got! like I said, I know where I'd rather be!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Audi should get some lessons on interiors from their VAG cousins!

I would be really annoyed If I spent £25k on a car and it came with a dash like that. Many polymers died making that dash.

Each to their own I suppose...

don't forget the crylics, theres a couple of thousand crylics sacrificed for the furby seats alone.:D

[sarcasm] Oh yes, that furby dash looks so much more appealing than the TT .... oh yes [/sarcasm]

Furby vRS is a lovely, lively frugal motor, I have had one as has Decron but they ain't 911 GT3's (apart from the 2.0L with a Mil behind the wheel) All the talk about a Remap on a furby is a bit daft when really the brakes, suspension and anti roll bars need sorting first so you can make the most of the 130ish you have

I have 154ish in mine :D

Oh and on the track I thought my standard car on Budget tyres did really well, in fact it really surprised me after hearing all the comments on here at how bad the car supposedly handles :)

My brakes died pretty quick though :o :P

It's all relative though isn't it? if your previous car was a Reliant Robin, the Fabia would be like a ferrari. If your previous car was an Imprezza or Evo the Fabia would appear a little "soggy"

I'm not knocking the furby, as in my previous post, but it is what it is, with some noteable exceptions from this forum (Jason / Shifty / Skudmissile etc)

Well sorted, it has a bit of "Q" car about it. Mine was ok with FSD's / Eibachs / Jabba ARB / 312MM Brakes, but, and your going to love this, I honestly believe that my Roomster handles better than my Furby did with the modifications.

What was the topic on this thread anyway :D

its a better chassis :)

It does without a doubt. Far more controllable, far more predictable, much better steering.

They won't believe you though :D

I believe it's more stable (it should be, with the wider track A5 rear platform), but that should also give you more geometric understeer.

'Geometric understeer'.

CARL!

Surely this would make the car one of the worst handling motors imaginable.

Indeed, such a car would likely be unable to even take any corner, no matter how slight. ;)

Which makes me think that there must be some oversteer built in through spring and/or ARB rates.

A little OT, but still relevant...

Just a thought, but will those TT'Tdi clocks fit a fabia?

You ever driven a MGB? More roll than Greggs

Now there is a real sports car experiance!

Eh? Be careful - they can be pretty good when played with, like the one in my sig................. which I do miss (although the proceeds went towards the Yellow VRS I now drive for fun.)

I have a standard 1972 MGB Roadster currently in storage waiting for a new fuel pump, a pair of batteries and the wire wheels need some attention.

Hilarious to drive, certainly not quick but some of the best fun I have had on the road and sounds great too!

Interstingly it' doesn't, even standard it's quite neutral. Fit a Rarb and it's near perfectly balanced with perhaps a little over.

'Geometric understeer' was actually a maths/driving quip combo.

See how bad the understeer rapidly gets as we move along the graph:

Not all MKII TT's are...

But the TT in question, the TDI, is 4WD.
