brakes on Estelle 82'

Featured Replies

with the handbrake adjustment, i think im correct in saying if you put new shoes and cylnders in, aadjust the cables up equally and then drive backwards and apply the handbrake (or footbrake) this allows the automatic adjusters to do there trick, please correct me if im wrong!

Hi alfcapone, brake inefficiency sounds like servo not working which is probably because the vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold is perished or blocked, often just the 1st few inches( cms) caused by the heat from the exhaust. As a quick test disconnect pipe

and run a dry garden hose between inlet manifold and servo , if brakes improve you can then replace the pipe which runs in the tunnel beneath the car held by the long plate with 6 or 8 bolts, Pete Covskoda .

PS., the original pipe is often long enough to trim the damaged part off and reattach if measured carefully.

I dont think its the servo, as i said before i can press the pedal to the floor no problem and not with any big force either, and the brakes dont start to work untill the wery end of the pedal movement(down at the floor).

I just got hold of a new brake cylinder but i havnt fitted it yet.
