What SatNav?

Featured Replies

Now that the Octy has gone I need a neat, reliable and accurate SatNav but have no idea what's the best so can you recomend one based on personal experiences or other reviews.

No budget limitations so what should I be taking a closer look at?

I've always been a TomTom man myself..... Never had any probs with them. The x30 series is the current batch with the x40 series due out early next year.

It also depends what you want it for etc..... If you don't need handsfree or some of the other things the x30 series offers then a simple TomTom 1XL would do ya etc.....

The other thing with the TomTom units is that the maps etc.... can be found online if you look hard enough too.

Cheers

Dave.

The TomTom 920 is a big bruiser

Active lane guidance fm transmitter, Bluetooth so you can get it to act as a handsfree and relay your text messages for you.

My mates got it and you're prob better off buying a camcorder bag to lug the tomtom plus all the extra gubbins around in.

But if you want a simples fuss free navigator either the Garming Nuvi 200w or equiv or TomTom 1 should do the trick.

Depends on your budget and needs.

I love my TomTom 720. Its been faultless and very intuitive to use :)

Yep i upgraded to the 520 earlier this year from my trusty old GO300.... The 300 was still battling on but was getting pretty slow what with me running the latest navcore 8 software on it. The main reason i went for the x20 was that it's exactly the same as the x30 series internally just with a couple of the extra features of the x30 series disabled....... Easily 'upgraded' it and am now running with all the same features as the x30 series.

Managed to save around £80 on the cost of a 530 too.

Garmin Nuvi 760 was faultless around the Alps - well, it went mental occasionally but so were everyone else's ;)

I've been contemplating a SatNav myself.

I've noticed that the likes of ebuyer and PC World have Tom Tom Ones at £110ish - but I'm guessing these are old, superseded models? What do you lose by getting one of these older ones?

Tell me more.....

i have a tomtom one which is mainly for work, yes its the cheapest of the bunch, its small and if it gets nicked out my cab (im multidrop so cant keep taking it out everywhere i stop) its cheap enough to replace.

If my boss was to buy my next one (yeah right) I would go for a tomtom 720 or 920 as these have uk and western europe maps and IQ routing.

PM Sent ;)

tomtom or garmin

Steve, I had the same quandry and based on Mater's reccomendation got one of the last of the TomTom Go 720's with full european mapping. It's been an excellent bit of kit, throughout the UK and on the recent family holiday over to Europe.

It's quick to fix on sattelites, instructions are clear, support is very good the only gripe is battery life is not great (1 - 2 hours) but I hard wired mine.

Whatever the upgrade for the 720 is (or maybe even grab a 720 they are still around and discounted) would get my vote

I agree with WaveyDavey and i think i know the website he is pointing you in the direction of. I have my trusty TomTom One XL running as an x40 device (which hasnt even been released yet), dont need to spend crazy money. Just need to know where to look :D

Dont get a navman.

Got Dad one for his birthday, and they are sooo complicated to use compared to a Tomtom.

I've tried countless times to get the new navcore 8.201 (x40) software running on my 520.... Others have managed it but no joy here.... I'm gonna wait till it's been tinkered with a little more before giving it another try.

Cheers

Dave.
