idle issues.

Featured Replies

Passed MOT with minor problems but garage said they could not find any problem with cutting out at junctions. Not impressed as one of the faults was with brake balance, they had the car a couple of weeks ago after a problem with the brakes, which was a week after they replaced 2 tyres.

There's a few mentions of low idle speed and stalling on this site going to try a new garage but want to quiz the mechanic. Any ideas as to what the probem is? How expensive?

Sorry should have said Felicia 1.3gli.

:)Check the basics first....check for tight valve clearances, blocked fuel filter, leaking inlet manifold gasket, other air leaks. Then look at the engine management system.

Does it cut out all the time or just when the car is cold?

if they woprked on the brakes and now the idle is low, might be that the hose from the brakes to the plenum has a leak, check that the vacuum system is ok before trying anything else

Going to try a small family type garage today, not much of a mechanic myself so will expalin problem and hope their good. Still more annoyed that a large chain repaired a fault on my barkes which started after they changed 2 tyres, then failed the MOT a week later because of a brake imbalance!!!! Thanks everyone for advice.

I've got a similar problem with my 1.3mpi, cuts out now and again coming up to junctions / when the clutch is fully engaged going along a road. Car had its 70k service a month ago, driving me scatty....Also noticed when engaging the clutch, the idle speed normally drops to around 300 - 500 for about a second before returning to around 900

Could be the some kind of temperature for the injector system. This went on my girlfriend's nasty little hyundai - can't remember if it was the actual sensor or the brain of the injector system. Was fine cold, but when it got to just under normal on the temp. gauge it was cut out and not run 'til cooled down again. Was fine if thrashed though and kept above 1000 rpm.

Hmm seems to be a pattern here, mine started with an awful juddering when pulling up at junctions now just stops dead. When I feel it going I just touch the gas to keep the revs on which is a pain in the ankle when in schoolrun traffic. phoned small garage who said "sounds like dirty fuel filter" same as a few posts on this site so will let you know when I get car back.

Cheers everyone.

Got car back this morning runs great, mechanic did everything that I'd picked up here cleaning throttle and idle control and put system conditioner through. If you get stuck in North East England I would reccomend DB Motoors in Birtley as I'm very happy with the service/price.

Its gonna be idle air control valve every time without fail!!!

Whereabouts is it on the felicia?

Anyone?

No idea where the idle air control valve is.

I always go to a small family run garage with mine but I buy my parts from Parkside a small local Skoda dealer who know their stuff

Thats cause we know them and they know us as they come to our local pub.

Keeps my Felly running smoothly and plus he has rather nice daughters too :D

Or walkerville garage in Wallsend which used to be a skoda dealer before the front wheel drive revolution!!! Did my timing chain for £90 labour

Is the idle valve part of the carb? Mine's a 1.3 injection  What's happening with mine is when you're going along for a while then put the clutch in coming to a stop, the engine dies sometimes or revs go so low that the battery light flashes on for a split second then recovers revs. Had a look at the throttle body yesterday and it seems clean enough, really annoying tryin to figure out what's causing it!
