For track users with KW V2 or V3 suspension..

Featured Replies

We're looking at suspension options for our race car (albeit a 2wd TT :D ) and have a couple of questions that serious track users may be able to answer..

What rate front springs do people use with these with good results? We want to use around 500+Lb/inch, just wondering if this maybe outside the useable range..

Does the adjustable damping of V2 affect rebound rate only and leave bump rate fixed?

Are V3 all remote-reservoir type construction? (regs wouldn't allow us to use these if that's the case)

Will they tolerate say 50mm lowering without running out of piston travel?

Aside of KW, any other reccomendations for coilover type units for race use?

Cheers :)

Depends if you want the KW warranty or not. They list the maximum and minimum drops according to each application and if you exceed these and damage the units, you'll void the warranty. The website has the info' specific to the TT as it will be different to the Octavia.

KW V'3 are not all remote-reservoir and will run with a 50mm drop. They come with 2 bumb stops of which 1 can be removed to allow greater piston stroke. Not sure about the TT but different ARB links are required to stop the ARB hitting the driveshaft when sitting so low on the Octavia.

As standard the Octavia Vrs KW V'3 setup comes with 1000lb front and 1070lb rear springs so the TT would have to be seriouly stripped out and lightened to run with 500lb springs. Seems a bit soft really. Also the range of damping adjustment with a unit designed for 1000lb springs will probably not be able to be set-upcorrectly with 500lb springs.

You'd be best speaking to KW UK as I believe they are very helpfull.

as with anything "Motorsport" we are assuming no warranty :D

The website does provide a fair amount of information, I was interested in actual users' experiences really.

TT front strut is dimensionally the same as vRS so I'm expecting Octy experience to be valid

ah.. cool, this is what I was hoping for :)

the car is stripped and weighs 1050kg - we are starting with 550 lb/in rate

as we've had poor experience with higher rates so far, although we'd expected to need 900+.. We're starting afresh next year with fresh suspension so will try and not make assumptions based on what we had this year (currently we used AVO coilovers and they just aren't up to it..)

So the V3 kit comes with 1000 lb springs as standard? Do people use that rate on the road??

We tried speaking to KW and they were not very helpful after we mentioned the word "race".. maybe we should try again and see if we get someone else lol :D

 Yep.

Just increase the damping rates a touch when she goes on track! It really does do both very well without feeling to harsh over bumps - its the damping that makes the big differences.

KW can also supply Linear Race Springs for the KW3.

Yep again, as I also run that spring rate on the road, same as Octavia Vrs.
