VRS replacement

Featured Replies

Since the start of the year I've been thinking of changing my 05 VRS for something else (I like to change cars every three years) I spoke to the dealers about the new MK2 VRS and was told 2010 after the current Fabia gets a face lift, but that’s far too long to wait my car would be worth bugger all by then so I went for some test drives to see what was on offer in the quick diesel market, first was an Astra 150hp it was horrible to drive and felt nothing like 150hp plus the build quality was dire, next up was a 2.2 Civic Type-S GT very nice to drive this one good pokey engine handled at treat the dash had a fantastic digital display and interior was excellent I very nearly bought one but found out you couldn’t spec xenon lights (my VRS has these so a must have on a new car) so that was that, then I looked at a 140hp Audi A3 S-Line this one was better than the VRS to drive, it had an outstanding interior too full leather, quality plastics everywhere best by a mile that was till the salesman told me the price £24k for basically a 3door hatch thanks but no thanks. I don’t mind spending more but for that money it needs to be a bit special if you know what I mean...

Today I think I test drove the right car and come January the 140hp diesel's available, OH YES…

What a car…its stunning, drives amazing, looks the dogs *******’s, class interior…WOW. One thing to note though this was the 200hp petrol I drove its not that it wasn’t fast it was but once your used to a diesel’s low down grunt I couldn’t give that up so it has to be a diesel, I’am smitten…:D

Cant wait to test the new ibiza cupra out, 7 speed DSG (slightly disapointing if you like full manual) however the 1.4 with twin pushing the usual cupra power will be brillient, should have power low down and straight to the line :D.

Hopefully it will be a right competitor in the market, especially as most of the competitors will have 2L T lumps or 1.6T.

The Scirocco will be availible with that 1.4 turbo/supercharged engine too , priced at just over £18K. I agree its a very nice looking car...I'd still rather have a mint Mk1 or Mk2 original though!

Makes you wonder when Skoda will get that engine ? Maybe a couple of years ...

I read that cars fitted with DPF need to be driven at speed for a while so the filter can burn off the build up of soot or they soon clog up and stop working still that’s a small price to pay for reduced smoke.

The Scirroco I test drove had a six speed DSG box and I must admit I was not overly impressed with it I can see its uses if you did a lot of town driving as the full auto mode worked well but when out on a twisty B road using the flappy paddles it was no better than the standard slick six speed box fitted to my VRS it took the fun out of driving for me.

1.4 super turbo, interesting engine that I wonder if the same technology can be applied to diesels imagine the grunt they would have then...

Does anyone else think Skoda cars have become really expensive now their reputation's went up. In 2005 my VRS cost me £12350 with xenon’s, sunroof and cruise see what the same money buys now a Fabia 3 TDI 80hp I reckon the MK2 VRS will be over £16k when it comes out and that’s a lot in anyone’s book.

SWMBO's car's a 170 bhp diesel golf, and a sensor in the 'zorst failed about 6 months ago, causing the DPF to fail to recognise that it was getting clogged. Since it's been fettled, it's been great. And it's pretty quick.

Bet it breaks tomorrow.
