Engine sensor locations - Mpi 1.3

Featured Replies

After 6k of faultless mileage the Felicia has now developed a problem....

When the car is cold, it will fire first time no problems. But then if you turn it off within the warm up period and try to restart it's a real struggle to get it going.

So my plan is to replace some of the engine sensors, question is where are they all located? Does any one have any pictures of the air temp sensor for example? The rest seem pretty self explanatory, I was going to replace the temp sensor ontop of the thermostat and the crank position sensor ontop of the bellhousing and see how it goes from there.

My Dad's car had a similar problem and we traced that back to being a crank position sensor

I think you will just need to replace the engine coolant sensor which is located on top of the thermostat housing. It will probably have a yellow ring round it and the replacement will then have a blue ring on it.

I think I have a brand new one knocking about somewhere....

Going to try that tonight with a used spare temp sensor, will see how it goes! Having said that I'm not sure whether the spare is any good, so may well be in contact if you have one for sale. Thanks for the info

Looks like the same problem I had when I bought the car...

Start the car, drive up to the filling station, and then, need to wait for the car to cool down before being able to start it again.

I replaced the temp sensor next to the thermostat unit, and since then, no more hot-restart thing.

Well I replaced the thermostat sensor tonight with a new one from jorily and it still does the same - struggles to restart if you turn it off within 5 minutes of initial cold start. Quite annoying as I was convinced it was this.

Any idea what to try next... crank position sensor?

i have had this problem in the past but it went away!! I was intending to look at mine with the following in mind:

Clogged fuel filter,

incorrect valve clearances,

faulty crank sensor,

worn spark plugs

Fuel evaporation

coil pack fault

My bet is on a fueling fault and clogged filter
