How do i know my car is alarmed

Featured Replies

I have an octy mark I VRS and have it insured as alarmed.

Daft question but does the car come alarmed. I believe it has an immobiliser but how do i check it is alarmed? It is insured as such!!

first lock the car then..........throw a brick through the window lol:)

The Mk1 Octavia VRS has NO alarm fitted as standard.

Lock the car with the remote, wait a couple of minutes and then unlock/open the boot using the key in the lock.

As said, the vRS didn't come with an alarm as standard.

If it has interior sensors you are supposed to put an inflated balloon inside near a slightly open window set the alarm and then pop the balloon and it should set the alarm off ( or so I was told at the dealers once )

Unless you have a different fob to unlock/arm the car then it will not have an alarm fitted as this was not an option on the Mk1 VRS. I installed a cat 1 alarm on mine as soon as I bought it from new for this very reason. For some reason they could never get the alarm to operate the doors so in the end I had to press both the key fob to unlock/lock the car and then the alarm fob to alarm/disarm the alarm. I would get your insurance changed as quick as possible as you are probably at the moment technically uninsured. Although the fact it has or has not got an alarm will probably make little or no difference on your insurance (gone seem to be the days when you could get 10-15% off for having one installed) cost it still will give them a nice little get out if something went wrong. They could even use it against you if you had a crash or if some one crashed into you even though the alarm being there or not would have had not impact on the cause.

Nope mk1 Octy vRS do not come with an alarm as standard, bloody rediculous if you ask me. Although alot of people advertise them as having an alarm and immobiliser when they know full well they don't have an alarm!

Immobilisers I get.

Alarms are just a waste of time.

I relied on the fact my skoda badge would put thieves off;)

Good point, who actually runs outside when they hear a car alarm going off these days :(

Quite a lot of Octy Mk1s had dealer fit alarms put on them (Scorpions). Its very obvious if yours has one as it has a seperate alarm fob.

I just lock my son in the car and get him to wave his arms about.

Test works for me :)

Me if it's my alarm!
