Awful speakers

Featured Replies

Well, I was going to put up with bad audio... until one of the speakers started vibrating and added to the fact they are rubbish I think ill replace them.

Questions;

I think they are 13cm speakers? Would any 13cm fit to replace them?

Would replacing the fronts give a noticable difference providing I fit something fairly decent (anything would be better than the standard fit). Is it worth fitting rears?

1.3L felicia Hatch BTW.

Finally, anyone reccomend a direct replacement ?

Cheers guys :)

yes they are 13cm speakers.

Any should fit so long as they're not huge in depth or anything.

I just went to motor world and picked up some £25 pioneer or alpine (can't remember) that do the job.

Big improvement in sound. Not sure there would be much point if you've got the standard or poor head unit fitted.

There are no standard places to fit rear speakers nor wiring that goes all the way to the back.

I just have a bass box in the boot that compesates for no speakers as i didn't want to hack up the parcel shelf.

Sweet, thanks for the reply.

The head unit went in the bin a while back.. hoped that would improve the situation.... it didnt.. Got a kenwood unit in there now, seems pretty good.

Will shop around for some 13cm's

:)

Any 13cm speakers will do

I replaced my front ones and put additional 13cm ones in on the parcel shelf

No shouldn't need extra wiring. Will just be able to use the existing wiring plugs for the original speakers.

They should do the job!

but remember with those infinities you'll need extra wiring for the crossovers, and the tweeters, and you'll need to fit the crossovers somewhere and the tweeters somewhere too, preferably higher up (nearer your ears). I put a similar set up by JBL into my last car - it was a bit of a hassle but did sound nice in the end!

let us know what you do, i may well copy...

I dont know a lot about audio as you can probabily tell..

would: Kenwood KFC-1361C 13cm 3-way Speakers - Car Audio Discount be suitable? I take it "3 way" is just simulated and doesnt need extra wiring??

Thanks

No i think you would need speakers with 4 mounting screw points from recollection. Best thing to do is take one out walk into halfrauds and match up. I basically turned on various stereos with speakers to find the best. I found pioneer dual cone to be superior to a lot of the 3 way speakers at the time which i was surprised at but they had a much clearer sound!

For the rears i put JBL 6x9s in which helped a lot and sound good. The parcel shelf is pretty sturdy to cut out but it is worth putting something underneath to protect your hands and wires when going in the boot!!

Some would say you need tweeters and this and that but i find this good enough for what i want

this is my audio configuration

4 5¼" 25W 8ohm speakers + 4 Tweeters

Crossover @ 250hz with 8ohm resitor to tweeter (to balance volume)

Pioneer head unit 50X4 mosfet

100Watt amp conected to head unit's RCA out crossover @ 250Hz

6½" 80W 4ohm speakers (x2) on a 17" x 8½ x 10½ box with bandpass

Can turn the audio full with 0 distortion :D and its loud, realy loud
