Fuel Flap Won't Shut On Estate

Featured Replies

FOUND A POST SO NO NEED TO REPLY ( BUT DID NOT HELP , GETTING SERVICED ON WEDNESDAY SO WILL GET IT SORTED THEN).

I have searched all the threads regarding how to fix the problem but I am having problems getting to the job, seen pics for the hatch but can not find pics how to get into the side of the estate. So far took two screws out but can't plus snapped of one of the plastic clips. Anyone please with simple pics/advice will do. I topped up the car with £40 diesel this morning and I don't really what it getting nicked.

I should think on the estate, you still access the filler cap cable from inside the trim on the right hand side of the boot. The cloth should pull away (possibly by removing some plastic trim from the edge as already done) and you can then re-clip in the fuel filler cable so it shuts.

Would the fuel flap be covered by warranty.

It's a known issue - had mine "repaired" by dealer once and then used a cable tie on it.

Then it popped out yet again and I used epoxy on the connector.

Now I can yank as hard as I want on the release (reason it lets go) and it is staying put....

Access is from within the car near the flap - pull the trim away and you'll see a disjointed cable. Very obvious how it should sit, no taking apart, just putting together and then making sure it stays together.

Managed to get hold of the cable and the spring, looks like the spring as come out to far. If the dealer wont fix it with the warranty I will have to do it.Is it just the case of the spring having to be fully on the black plastic tip?.

Just plug it together - IIRC spring goes into tube housing and it all plugs together. Dab of epoxy on the connecting lips makes sure that no matter how hard you pull it's fine....

The spring looks like it is to small to go into tube housing, how do you get it in???

On the other hand, I got fed up with it and removed the catch completely. The spring keeps the flap shut. Unless you tell someone, it is safe - walking along cars with closed filler flaps in the hope of finding one you can prise open is probably not worth the risk to a diesel thief for a few litres.

I used a jubilee clip around mine to hold the cable together. Not broken yet.
