vRS Wiper problems

Featured Replies

Help my front and rear screen wipers have just developed a mind of their own.

I have an 05 /54 plate Mk1 Octavia vRS 40,000 miles

It’s a great car and Iv not had any real problems up until now.......

For the past two weeks the rear wiper would start on its own...... ,

But today the front wipers have decided that they want to play as well and will either go onto intermittent or just keep going all the time.

Can anyone give me a clue me what the problem may be ?

Thanx for any help

Could be one of 2 things, dodgy relay or dodgy control stalk.

Thanx for the reply where would I find the relay for the wipers ?and does the one relay operate both front and rear wipers

Remove the cover just above the pedals and look up. You'll see the relay plate and the wiper control unit is the largest one, possibly black or brown. It will have a part number on it beginning 1J0, this is a part common to the VW brands so you should be able to get one from any of the dealers. I think that it is around £30.

My front wipers were doing the same, pulled out the relay as mentioned, and put it back in few days later (car wasn't needed over the weekend and had a couple dry days too ) and its been fine ever since. It was booked in to stealers to get looked at, but since it was ok, I cancelled it.

check a previous thread called 'my rear wiper' theres some info on there

I didn't have time to mess about and needed the car, I took it to my local Skoda dealer Saunders Abbott in Sanderstead, They carried out a diagnostics check then the Relay and finally the stalk switch but eventually found that the rear wiper motor was faulty , apparently the interior of the motor had collapsed and washer fluid was leaking out and short circuiting the electrics this was also causing the front wipers to take on a life of their own.

The motor was about £60, Labour about £80 and Diagnostics about £60 , Couldn't fault the dealer and the after market warranty company ( Warranty direct) were easy to deal with....

However time will tell if the problem re surfaces and the warranty company sends me a cheque.

Thanx for the replies vRSMURF

Like this one? picture

I got a periodical problem with mine (only front, my car doesn't have rear wipers), they stop working for 10-15 seconds, and start again.
