depends how you drive the car

drive pretty normal...unless sum1 flys up behind me then its a different story..haha..doesnt get ragged all the time tho...

Can you tell me what symptoms you are getting from your original flywheel please? How do you know it's broken?

How have you managed to get it done under warranty? Did they not road test the car to check the symptoms reported, and maybe noticed that it was a little quicker than normal?!

Flywheel - mine's on 85k and still the original, 20k of that have been remapped. Avoid booting it from below 2k and there's no reason that it won't last.

Steve

Personally I think you should be paying for your own flywheel. If you remap and get it under warranty then everyone else pays for it either in the cost of their car or servicing etc.

The car is probably putting out a lot more power and torque than the original design and possibly more than the flywheel was rated for.

That plus the map you have isn't exactly known for being progressive and iirc a few people had a map from them and then a dead turbo which may or may not be connected to the map.

Let's hope that your local dealer in Ayr does not find out about the remapping of your car... The walls have ears in this forum you know.

I do believe there is a mechanic from Ingrams in Ayr that tends to "float" about on here........not me by the way lol

Maybe the OP should have posted a thread after the flywheel had been sorted on Wed? :rubchin:

Steve

Google will have cached it by now and everything! :D

I have a certain bad habit, actually two of 'em. The first is that I tend to drive the car under 2k rpm in 6th gear a lot. The second is even worse, I often drive off in 2nd gear from almost stand still, in bad traffic for example. Is my flywheel doomed?!?

If you're attempting acceleration in 6th at those revs, I'd try and avoid it. 2nd gear take-offs can be managed from near standstill with no ill effects, in my experience. But you might be better off using 1st a bit more :)

As long as you dont floor it and expect it to go through the revs then you will be fine, however do the opposite and Im afraid it wont help the flywheel thats for sure.

One of the mechanics would be a mate of his...

Well that could go badly then.

Skoda uk have been known to read this forum and have previously refused to pay for a warranty item based on what was posted here at a cost to the garage IIRC.

This happened to at least one member on here.

So what are the symptoms of a DMF failure? I get a slight increase in diesel clatter when I depress the clutch (usually by telling it all my problems..........;-) but when the pedal comes back up it quietens down again - had it checked by two dealers and was told there was no problem. It works fine.

Noticeable judder under acceleration would be one. What you're describing isn't DMF related and you're right - not an issue to be concerned about.

Umm, beg to differ. It could well be a syptom. When my DMF went I had no judder under acceleration. When the clutch dis-engaged (either by pressing or allowing to come right back up) there was a slight rattling noise from the engine which sounded a bit like increased chatter. After about two weeks this became a god awful banging noise that sounded like someone was repeatedly hitting the engine with a hammer. One new DMF later and all was solved.

Fair enough; haven't heard of that happening before.

Steve

A bit of extra noise when you disengage the drivetain isn't unheard of on a derv, it just depends how much you get I guess.

Certainly the judder is always what I've notice when the DMF has gone.

It has done it since I got it Aug 07 so am guessing 'tis ok? Does seem to be a little louder now tho............
