We have flown in that De-haviland Rapide and walked through the Sally b B17 ....the rapide is quite an experience

Love Duxford, such a cool place.

I really like the SR71, just something about that aircraft that is very, very cool.

I'm only 40 mins from Duxford but have never been. Perhaps a few Brisky peeps could get together and go one Saturday or something?? :)

Nice pics

I've been once but it was a rushed visit. Would love to go again.

It wouldn't be the first time :D

Count me in please, haven't been there for ages!

I would be up for it without doubt, the kids would love it.

Nice:thumbup: It's not cheap is it, around £150 for half an hour. IIRC £500 for a ride in a WW2 fighter:eek:

I don't like the idea of flying in something that has wires holding the wings on:O

It was very windy this weekend, you should have seen those planes landing in the cross winds:eek:  Doesn't inspire confidence:rofl:

That Blackbird looks like it was build by aliens, amazing looking thing.

Awwww, thats my favourite bit about crosswind landings - pointing in the wrong direction and straightening it up just before plopping it onto the runway. At least at Duxford you have the choice of landing on the grass or the tarmac

 Shame I couldn't get some front on shots of the landings:mad:

Let me know if this occurs, I might be able to make it if it's a Sunday as I always work Saturdays and the odd Sunday.

Those wires work very well  ...we went up during one of the airshows ...if you got lucky you stayed up quite a while while one of the displays was on :D.....was well worth it to fly in what is nearly a 80 year plane

one of those big hangers at Duxford was blown up for the film "battle of britain"

Nice pics. Although I've never been there I've seen an SR-71. In New York on the deck of the Intrepid. It's a very cool plane and slightly weird seeing it with skyscrappers in the background.

Went for my Birthday a few weeks back.

Where was Sally B? We missed her on our visit, as it was the only thing of interest to SWMBO

Although, strictly speaking its an A-12 :P US Air Force Aircraft

To be fair I always thought the A-12 was an supersonic interceptor versionthat was never put into service.

Would be nice to go to Duxford again but its not the wife's cup of tea.

Well your right, but just thought it would cause confusion. Still a beautiful craft.

Another great effort Chris  - not been myself, but will be putting that right shortly.

Good idea. Might be able to help with something too. SWMBO works at IWM London so I might see if anything 'interesting' could be organised :rubchin:

I recall that during the miners strike, I was based at an RAF station. We were told to go nowhere near the Victors.:(

Yet when we visited a nearby USAF base for lunch, we were allowed to sit in the cockpit of an operational SR71  - sure beats the Piper Cherokee I used to flying!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I could be up for it.

My first Brisky meet was at Duxford back in 2003  About time we went for another tour  Maybe even Denis would joins us :duck:

  • 7 months later...

Yes would be nice to do another visit and a Brisky meet. There was a car show there last year so we could do one of those perhaps?

Have blagged the Rapide in the sunset for my desktop background. Lovely planes - to think those were the airliners of the 20s and 30s! Empire, my boy, empire!

Great pics. Will have to get to Duxford properly some day instead of just driving past. Didn't realise you could go up in a Dragon Rapide - that's deffo on a birthday list now :D

Now post your £1.99 screen saver fee to...............

The Dragon is a lovely aircraft. Don't forget the camera if you do take a flight.

Great pictures

I'd love to go to Duxford, it's one of those places that I don't quite understand why I've never been.

Thanks for sharing :)
