Power Steering light came on tonight!

Featured Replies

The bosses car started doing this as well it seems to be the season for it. :mad:Anyone got a crystal ball switched on? Hers has disco dash and headlights as well. Brand new batt and alternator appears to be charging ok. Just got VAGcom to check for fault duhhh where does it plug in?

I think that it is just down to breaking these faults down into sensible groups of items, like the driver's door not unlocking with remote could be linked to the interior light not coming on when the driver's door is opened - switch built into door lock. Steering problem might be battery low/old/dying etc. Use the search function as nothing you have written is really that new - so that means that you could find out a lot (if you are lucky) BTW I would not underestimate the power of a scan tool - or getting the car scanned - all modules that would take some of the guessing and working blind out of the equation.

You where spot on rum4mo with the battery causing the power steering light to come on, battery give up at weekend and no prower steering wanning from new battery fitted

  • 2 months later...

I have the same on my X reg fabia diesel. It started intermitendly a couple of years ago, but is on 'most' of the time now.

The fluid filler is unbelievably under a 21kg battery which I can't get out. Just replaced the battery.

My local skoda garage have said it won't need topping up, and that it can be a sensor replacement at £150.

I get the impression that they will change this and if that doesn't sort it, then they'll extract some more cash from me to try the next.... and the next.

Any ideas?

Hi

Just thought I'd share this, as I had all the same symptoms on my Fabia 2001 1.9Tdi - power steering light on occasionally, flickering headlights etc

My local independent garage traced it to a broken fuse blade in the main power distribution box. The fuse had corroded and was causing fluctuating voltage through several main power circuits.

Cost £6 and some labour.

It was replaced last Thursday and there's been no problems since but for some reason I'm not optimistic it will last. Am a nervous wreck now everytime I drive, scared sh1tless in case i see a flicker....
