Big brake conversion

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a bgi brake conversion done to the hearse...

Currently shes got 312mm standard octy vRS brakes running with standard 17" alloys.

What makes and sizes could I go for with the 17" alloys?

Looks interesting... At least I now know that 335mm brakes work on the 17"s

I'd like to have more of a choice...but they look good although I've never heard of them before, but reading the other posts, that wouldn't bother me.

AP Racing 6 pots with 335mm discs mate.......f'kin awesome!

does anyone know if the compbrake kit comes in green?

the LCR brakes are also a good upgrade and perhaps a little more oem? :)

I think the Compbrake kit is available in green now for a few pounds extra. Best bet is to give a guy called Brent a call at Compbrake - they are VERY helpfull indeed.

I kept them black as they have a loverly anodised coating that wont fade, flake or generally look crap after a few months.

Still very impressed with the kit - braking is effortless and stopping distances much reduced.

yea they are mate i asked the same question

£50 iirc

was gonna go for them but after havin to get new disks n pads i found they are more than adequate for me

EBC discs BD Pred pads

What are the LCR ones then? 4 pot Brembo's? Still a 312mm disc?

Wonder how much they are from a Seat dealer?

a lot

they are bit bigger than 312

323mm i think or similar yea 4 pots, check but iirc you may need spacers for the std vRS alloys, not sure

You can also fit V6 TT/MkIV R32 front brakes which just squeeze under the standard wheels. I was looking to do that but never got round to it.

Only twin pots ad tbh, not all that great.

yea for the extra you might as well stay on what you got,

the 6 pot are bit overkill really unless ur a racer, but it is nice to have that masive calliper up front. go for the compbreak mate.

Worth it though if you can pick them up for a couple of hundred quid as I was going to. 334mm twin pots as opposed to 312mm single pots.

Oh, and IIRC from when I was looking, the Cupra R brakes need spacers to clear the wheels.

So we have...

R32 (mk4 I presume?) - 2 pot - (Size?)

LCR / Brembo - 4 pot - 323mm (bigger too?)

AP Racing - 6 pot - (Size?)

Compbrake - 6 pot - 330mm (335mm too???)

Any more?

Tarox do a big brake kit aswell, using their own callipers. Think you can chose between 6 and 10 pot, or something silly like that!

No idea on the spec, but its on Awesome's site.

334mm twin pot as per the post above.

AP 6 POTS....thats whats on was on furby and you seen firest hand what they were like...:thumbup:330mm i think

AP Racing - 6 pots = 335mm

Stuff all these power dyno runs - we need a gathering for a big brake shoot out. Of course I'd win!! :orb_rocki

Price has to come into it also, AP's are an expensive brake upgrade and compbrakes are manufactured in the UK and offer a full caliper rebuild service if ever required. You've plenty of good kit to choose from altho I'd avoid OEM stuff if it doesn't have oposing caliper pistons. Quality of pads and discs is a major factor and you want a kit that comes with high performance friction materials.

There are loads to choose from but for me it was only ever between AP and Compbrake and I did months of tedious searching :D

i have the LCR 4 pots with standard discs and DS2500 pads, very very good but obviously not the be all and end all of it.
