L&K 1.6 not starting

Featured Replies

Hi all ,not posted for some time because all was well:D,but ....I got home from work today and as I backed onto the drive the car packed in.I thought I had stalled ,but it wouldn't start again.:( After turning it over a few times and realising it wasn't going to start I lifted the bonnet. When the key is turned on you get the fuel injection kick in but then it just seems to carry on running. There is a whirring, buzzing type sound and it seems to be coming from the F.I unit.Anybody got any ideas what it could be ? Thanks...TIM

Does it have a spark? Distributors failing is quite common on these.

Mines been well and I post on here a lot :D

I think mine may be showing similar symptoms.

If the cars stalled or you've turned the car off after letting it run, then try starting it again its taking longer to fire up than it does from cold or if it's been left standing for say 10-30 minutes say.

Only experienced this a few times.

I don't like stop starting as I've heard this can flood the engine.

Have you tried injector cleaner? incase there could be a blockage?

Thanks for the replies.I tried it again this morning and nothing. It looks like off to work on the bike and look for spark when I get home.

had any luck so far?

You say its coming from the injection system, but what part?

ECU, Injectors?

Cant really help until we know more info.

If what your describing is what noise they make, when the fuel pump primes, and the ecu switches on the injection system, ready to fire up. It should still start if its still making that noise.

Maybe someone with vag com can help you?

Can you check the cambelt is not loose. Just remove the cover and check the tension.

sell me the interior :P

i want the drivers seat, and boot door!

i want the lot including door cards :P i asked first 8-) haha :P ohh second thoughts can have the boot door ;)

Thanks for the replies.I have been unable to do anything due to work and it being too dark when I get home.Had a day off today so I had a look. There is no spark.I took the dizzy cap off and the rotor arm looks quite worn,so a quick trip to Halfords for a new one ,"sorry none listed".Can you not change them?Reading other threads I think a new dizzy might be in order,I might just get it towed to the local garage who MOTs it for me and let him have a look.I take it that the whirring I can hear is the fuel pump.Something you dont hear normally because the engines running :)Thanks for all the concern about the interior :D Hopefully I will still need it !

Get one for a 6n Polo but make sure it matches the dizzy cap.

there's 2 different types of rotor arm and distributor, but so long as you get a matching set (dizzy, arm and cap) you can interchange them, if the fuel pump is running you can rule out an immobilizer fault..

might be worth checking the coil too, these can sometimes burn out if you do a lot of idling

Mobile mechanic just been round and it was the coil.£40 + fitting. So the interior is still needed ,sorry :D I'm just glad its fixed,it's too wet and cold to be going to work on my bike . I must be getting old !!!! Thanks again for the input.

Felicias are tough cars, you wont be selling that interior for some time yet :D
