power steering?

Featured Replies

is there any easy way that i can fit power steering to my 1997 felly 1.3mpi?

Define easy?

It would mean getting the rack, pump, pipes, reservior, mounting hardware etc off another car that has power steering, then hope to hell it dont spring a leak.

I would say F***ing difficult, unless you are a professional mechanic or a gifted masocist. Not very helpful, but would advise buying one with PS and then selling yours to someone with big arms (may work out cheaper than buying the parts 2nd hand anyway, and save loads of grief).

Pump the tyres up a bit.

Pump the tyres up a bit.

If it aint broke etc.... and air is free

what else?

Bigger steering wheel? (now thats a joke, or is it?)

Not sure if that reads right

I meant pumping the tyres is a good suggestion.

eeeeehhhhh

so if i do this and pc plod pulls me up it will be legal? does it make any difference to the power? and have u taken the cat out or kept it in? thanks tom

;)

It's not easy.

Try and find a deeper-dished steering wheel, or sit closer to the one you have (think touring or rally car type driving position, not F1). If the tyres are well worn, get new ones!

Tracking can make a difference too.

In my sisters Micra, that car doesn't have power steering but as it's small and light there's no need for it.

It can make parking a bit of a chore at times but it's exercise.

As I'm quite young and relativly fit the non PAS equipped Micra is not a problem for me, but if you're older and weaker then you might struggle in a car without PAS.

I thought PAS could be retro fitted but think theres a thread in here somewhere..... here it is

This explains it

Hence my advice. I'd no trouble with my sis's Micra, but she could make heavy weather of the steering, and the main difference was that she, despite being shorter than me (and not wearing heels) sat further from the steering wheel!
