We've been prestaging half a million quid's worth of networking equipment this week and yesterday I took a few photos to be used in some marketing materials.

I reckon they came out quite nicely though I'm sure most of you will think WTF?

Does all that produce a lot heat? ...place I worked at last had a few small hubs and all we did was go around putting in cooling for them

wtf :S I thought network equipment needed cables :P God I must be old, oh it's wireless of course...

Sorry long day coupled with inverted exercise and danone actimel for tea :yuck:

I see you went for HP.. hope they give decent discount ;)

We have 3 racks worth of netapp shelfs and 4-way servers arriving in jan for a mahoosive server virtualisation/storage consolidation project.. could take pictures of that but wont have as many flashing lights :o

My degree in networking and CCNA allows me to make the following technically advanced statement

WOW ITS SO PRETTY!!!!

Yep , there were 22 large chassis in total , and with them all running it needs a lot of aircon.

Hmmmm.....switches.

Wow. IP porn.

May be I should post a piccie of the 127 Tb disk array that we just installed. Or explicit jpegs of a 3 bay IBM 3584 tape library. With LT04 drives and encryption.

I'd prbably get banned

It's easy to keep it tidy when it's just prestaged with no edge ports patched in.

Our live comms room looks very different!

Ooh shiney…………….

And lots of lovely coloured fibre looking thingymebobs......hmmmmmmmmm:)

Do it! :D

Very good Alex - £100? :P

Is that PCI-E or infiniband hanging off the bottom of the switch rack?

127Tb... aww so cute :p That's a couple 4U enclosures then? :D

I'm sat in a suite in Telehouse datacentre at the mo. I won't take a pick of our kit.... it wouldn't fit in an image (over 100 racks in the one suite alone)

10Gb X2-CX4 modules - same connector as infiniband but longer length cables supported (apparently).

CX4 goes up to about 15m IIRC :) Great for cheap inter-rack 10GbE connectivity when they're in the same room.

monomode 10GbE fibre is well expensive though - well, the xenpaks are :o

I hope they label the cables, unlike several jobs I've been to this week.

me: Which power cable/breaker is it in this vast room with 1,000's of cables to make the circut safe for me to work on?

Guy on site: Dunno. We could try each one I supose

You ready for this
