It's a strong little car...

Featured Replies

Had a bit of an experience on the M6 earlier in the week. A van lost a couple of rear wheels and associated bits causing damage to a number of vehicles. I collided with a rather solid object in the outside lane which caused an instant puncture.

Managed to get the car over to the hard shoulder where a quick inspection showed no obvious body damage only a flat drivers front tyre. However by the time I got around the car there was a rather smelly pool of diesel under the car

Highways Agency cleared up the mess and the car got recovered off the motorway. Also had a flat rear by this time. How there were no physical injuries I'll never know!

Got a call from the insurance assessor today. Seems it took a hefty whack - the drivers side front rim is split in two round the circumference and buckled. Suspension is busted - lower arm is bent, shock and main strut are damaged. Said object then hit the floor, ripped the fuel pipes off and proceeded to buckle the rear rim.

How and why the entire front suspension didn't fail and cause a very nasty accident I'll never know. There was a very nasty vibration (probably due to the rim) but the steering and brakes worked allowing me to stop the car in reasonable safety. I can't help thinking if I were in something else it wouldn't have ended as well.

Glad your Ok sounds like a nasty one. Some luck involved I think, but they are solid cars. Another advantage of diesel, it doesn't go boom like petrol does.

Sounds like it could of been worse, glad to see your alright.

glad you are ok,and as for strong well bolted together cars, just try taking them in bits is enouh to tell you that:thumbup:

Glad you are OK

Sorry about the car

I take it, it will be paid for by the Vans insurance?

National

Pleased to hear your ok.

I wouldn't have anything else other than Skoda! I think they are tough cars - I have put mine to the test on a few too many occasions! Felicia's mostly - I expect the newer ones are even tougher with NCAP ratings etc.

blimey, sounds like could have been a much worse outcome glad u came off so well! Hope the vans insurance will sort it all out

Thanks for the kind words.

Insurance companies are still negotiating, should get the Furby back at the end of the week. I'm not anticipating a quick resolution as there were a number of other vehicles involved (lets say more than five). Miraculously there were no physical injuries and as far as I'm aware no-one collided with another vehicle.

Being a passenger in a Furby in a crash, and how well the car stood up against a Nissan Entrail, was one of the reasons that led to me choosing a Furby for myself.
