Skoda Cigar Lighter/Power Sockets

Featured Replies

It's not really history though I hope this will be consigned to history at some point. Can anyone explain why Skoda designers insist on putting the cigar lighter/power socket so far back from the dashboard? This is hardly convenient. For example, if I want to plug my Satnav in I can barely get the cable to stretch to the windscreen-mounted cradle. When the Roomster came out and I saw they had put it in the same place I was mystified as to why. Does anyone actually prefer it back from the dash?

Note to moderators - if you want to move this post to another forum feel free - I couldn't find a "general Skoda" forum.

Because having it next to or near the ashtray would be too Germanic!

They put it there so back seat passengers could get access to it. It is a daft location though as any accessory leads can get tangled in the gear lever. My solution was to run a cable to a three way lighter socket and I fitted that to the lower right hand side of the centre consul, with the main feed cable tucked under the centre consul flange.

It's a conspiracy that goes to the deepest level....they want us to buy extension sockets and have wires trailling all over the place...... ummm ok i dunno.....i blame mr blobby

Is this just an issue with Skodas or do other manufacturers' cars have the same design defect (feature)? What about VWs and Seats for example?

At least they leave the power live all the time, used to annoy me that I had to have the ignition on to charge the phone etc.

problem is when i use other vehicles (like the golf) that dont have live power socket with ignition off i think there is something wrong with the connection only to find its only live with ignition on.
