First question, has anybody else had experiance of BBR GTi's Star Chip?

Featured Replies

I had the BBR chip in my FAb VRs, it gave out loads of black smoke loads of Torque but little BHP and very narrow band of power.

As u may of guest i have now had it re chiped by Kim Collins at QST in Haywards Heath, and am very pleased with the service and performace, now putting out 158 BHP , well the same settingd as the new

A TDi is always going to smoke when you increase the power.... you should see mine now on full tilt :D its a smokescreen

I always though excessive visible smoke was an MOT failure now?

Yoll be suprised how much smoke needs to be emitted for it to fail :)

Clearly the rules need tightening then. There's too many Asthma sufferers these days, my nephew being one of them.

Very true!. infact all car-related laws and guidelines need hevily revising for modern times... especially the highway code.

The Highway code is totally irrelevant to modern driving, but that's :offtopic: :)

It does make me laugh how little is done to enforce it tho. in my 6 years of driving, ive seen a mobile emissions testing station once (in lancaster) - that was pulling over commercial vehicles and transit vans (they are sooo easy to turn up) and a vehicle-testing checkpoint in manchester once, but they were blatantly concentrating on old cars. when i could pretty much bet that one in 10 of the repmobile vectras or mundanos had defective tyres, lights or whatever.

Vehicle checks should be almost compulsory, at least once a year.. but based on a rolling spot-check type basis, as a MOT isnt good enough because people know in advance about it.

EDIT: the reason i say this, when i worked for a transport company, we used to "tune" our vans. they smoked more but who cared if they were a bit faster... then we used to turn them down again for the GV tests.

You often get guys with emission guns hanging around Heathrow, checking Taxis for smoke.

You'd have thought they'd have had someone on the runway, checking the 747's !
