Just had a 60,000 mile service, MOT, Brake Fluid change, new Cam belt and Water Pump, total cost was £552 (inc. £53.10 for MOT ) at the dealers.

They used.....

038198119A Repair Kit, contains timing belt, relay roller & tensioner roller - £88.83 +VAT

045121011HX Water Pump - £29.61 +VAT

The labour charge was £290 (4.5 hours) for everything. They charge £55 per hour, and my local independent VAG specialist charges £45 per hour, so not a lot of difference in the price.

my cars booked in on wednesday for a timing belt at £180 fitted

guess their not doing the water pump or aux belt then ?........or maybe even using a genuine kit ?

Got my cam belt changed a year ago, bought cam belt kit (VW part) off "hootiemcboob1969" on Ebay for either £49 or £59, can't remember, and a local VW specialist fitted it and a metal impeller pump, which cost £32 for £110.

Changed mine a 57000 miles.

no waterpump but using genuine vag parts

have ask him to do the waterpump (metal impellor) and an oil change at the same time so will report back wenesday pm with a breakdown on prices

so they did cambelt and water pump for £20 labour?......or the labour was £110 ?

£110 labour to fit cambelt with kit and fit waterpump.

My mate gets Saab stuff done for £35 an hour at a country garage - I tend to get charged about £75+ by VW when I need to use them - at £35 an hour they would get more work out of me!!

Seems that you are down at about £25 an hour labour charge.

I'd do it for £300 inc water pump and a free oil and filter change.

Think the time the book says a job takes and therefore what a garage can charge, and what an experienced mechanic takes can be two different things.

I've just had two qoutes from Independants for cambelt kit, water pump and an MOT. £389 plus £40 for MOT and £399 plus £52 for MOT.

Is there anyone around the Oxfordshire OX39 area (Chinnor) can do a better deal? :)

Christ! I paid my tame mechanic £60 to fit the cambelt kit and waterpump, the parts cost just under £100 off the internet.
