Lamin-X Headlight Film - With Pics

Featured Replies

Hey fellow Briskodians, was reading this thread ( http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/my-fabia-vrs/130247/ ) the other day and quite liked the lamin-x on the headlights, but wasn't too keen on the black, so visited their web site ( © Lamin-X.co.uk™ - ventureshield 3m paint protection films, headlight, lamp protection tinting for cars and motorcycles ) and bought the blue ones. Heres how i got on.

Started off by buying the 12x20 inch sheet, well actualy bought two just incase, but you can get the two headlights and two fog lights out of the one sheet, just!

Then got some good shampoo and thoroughly washed the lights, make sure you get all the squished fly marks out because any mark is noticeable under the film.

Next was to dry and clean the lights with a microfibre (antistatic) cloth.

I then put the lights on, initially to dry them, but it turns out its a good way of applying alittle heat to the film, which helps it adhere and mould round corners. Although be carefull, the fog lights got too hot and turned the film into jelly, so had to let them cool till they were just warm enough to make the film more plyable.

And the finished product. . . Looks cool and very blue, but still shines white light

Sorted!! Enjoy

links fixed.

Oh excellent! I had seen this stuff ages ago but couldn't remember the name of it. Ace fitting chief!

Looks good.

Nice subtle mod.

Im going to have to get some of this stuff for my rear lights.

I had real problems getting the lamin-x stuff to bend to the contours of the fogs - it's really thick. I did my best to heat it with a hair dryer but still didn't get a perfect result. I'll have to do it again in the spring.

Any tips on making the stuff soft enough?

(PS yellow films on the fogs is better! :P)

Looks good

Think i'll be fitting this to my fog lights as I have xenon lights and the fogs look really yellow compared to the xenons.

"Although be carefull, the fog lights got too hot and turned the film into jelly"

what happens when you have them turned on then?

Im gonna get some black stuff for mine soon! This might sound really thick, but if it melted it putting it on, surely its just gonna melt it when you put your fogs on?!

Yes, lol, leave your foggies on for half an hour like i did, gets pretty soft!! it burns your fingers bending it round the edges, but its worth it for the finish. . . :D

Its cheaper than buying a proper heat gun, and you'll only burn out your hair dryer.

once the film has cooled down and has "settled" for 48hours, the heat doesn't seem to make it soft again, just feels like hot glass.

Its only been on for a couple of days, so ill let you guys know if it damages the film with the foggies on, and as i said, once the film has cooled down and has "settled" for 48hours, the heat doesn't seem to make it soft again, just feels like hot glass.

Did you just put a sheet over the front of the light or did you bend it to fold it over the top as well?

p.s. what happens come MOT time?

i dont think it affects MOT

Just over the top by about 1cm, you can see a little white shining out the top where there is no film, doesn't really bother me, but it would be easy enough to bend it over the top and stop that. I just got carried away with the knife.

As for the MOT, as long as the lights still shine white through the film, which they do, then its ok. When you start putting blue bulbs in, thats when you get a wrap round the nuckles.

I've had the fogs on a lot this last week because it's been really foggy. And the film's still fully intact.

I think the OP's right about it "settling" into a fixed form as I had hoped the ripples round the edge of one of my fogs would melt out with this recent use, but it hasn't.

I think the film cures for a period after getting hot for the first time as the instructions also tell you not to worry too much about air bubbles as the air will leach through the film after application. Perhaps this is when it's curing...

When I'm redoing the fogs, I think I'll do the headlamps as well. This stuff is about 1.5 - 2mm thick. If nothing else, it's got to be good protection for them. I was gobsmacked by how pitted the fog glass was on a six month old car... They do clear film as well...

oooh that looks great :D

i've been wanting to do my headlights yellow, may check out this film.

well fitted!if many more people buy this on here,id needa be getting commision from lamin-x!lol

although i cant really see much difference on the appearance of your car?black definetly wouldnt have suited though.
