Throttle body stuck today how do i clean it?

Featured Replies

car conked out at a busy round about today.

wouldnt start again.i drained the battery trying.

Rac bloke comes. charges up battery still not starting

he says i know what this is. pulls off the airfilter box unplugs the throttle body then moves the throttle wi his finger a few times.

plugs it back in and then presto hey car starts first try.

He plugs the computer in and its thrown up codes for egr valve (again sigh) and throttle body.

so i need to clean egr valve again and the throttle body so it doesnt stick anymore.

How do i clean the throttle body? anything i shouldnt use on it?

was gonna use clutch and brake cleaner

its a 1.4 16v btw

Clutch or brake cleaner fine, as is IPA spray.

It's best to remove it to clean it, whilst there check/clean the egr pipe underneath it. Use an old tooth brush and/or plastic scaper on thhe more stubborn bits.

I used brake cleaner on SWMBO's

I believe carburettor cleaner is probably best suited, although anything that's volatile and (ultimately) flammable ought to do it as suggested. If you remove it, you'll need:

a. To get a new gasket;

b. VAG-COM to reset it.

Cleaning in situ doesn't need either if these, BTW...

thanks i'll give it a go in situ

.

If the trottle unit has been unplugged it should be adapted using VAG COM. It will give a strange throttle response until you do.
