Where to locate a Fire Extinguisher

Featured Replies

I've finally got round to buying a 0.8kg Fire Extinguisher for the car.

Where have you located yours?

I was thinking about screwing it into somewhere round here

What wires/pipes etc are there around there should I be worried about screwing into?

I've got a small one that fits nicely in the right hand side of the boot opposite the cd changer in the small netted area.

You can get the extinguisher fitting kit from Skoda which attaches to the base of the passenger seat.

I thought about keeping mine there but it's not in easy reach should the worst happen.

Tip from my old man's Mk1 MR2 days - keep the extinguisher in the boot, 'cos you don't even want to CONSIDER fighting a fire in the cabin! (Don't forget, the fuel tank in the Mk1 MR2 is in the trans tunnel! ) And if it's growing so fast as to be out of control by the time you've got out and gone to the boot, you might as well pee on it as use a 0.9kg extinguisher!

Sure, you may not be able to get at it if you're rear-ended, but most of the potential ignition sources are at the front of a car anyway...

Mines under the drivers seat in the correct skoda bracket.

Does the bracket fit that well in a mk1?

Thats a really good "How To" amd looks very good when finished. Takes up minimal space to, especially if you have cruise and you want to move your legs about.

Well skoda do a bracket for a fabia, so I'd be fairly certain they do one for the MK I octy II.

Yes they do, see the link in post #4.

That just looks like the extinguisher and bracket for it though rather than the car specific mount.

Its the oem bracket for the Octavia;

What is this parts catalogue and where can I get one please ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Mine's in the drivers side, rear boot pocket with the first aid kit and a big box of disposable gloves.

Decided to buy a fire extinguisher after witnessing a small shunt where a VW Polo had rear ended a 4x4 (VW Touareg I think ??). Nobody was hurt but the tiny fire which resulted spread from about the size of your thumb to half the car and the hedge at the side of the road in about 30 seconds !!

I know full well that a extinguisher of that size is going to be practically useless in a decent fire but i believe that it could have put out the fire at the beginning without too much trouble.
