Servicing

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's,

I'm thinking of servicing my year old Octy II Vrs myself with OEM filter & longlife oil. How do I reset the dash?

The reason I ask is that 6months ago my car had it's first service 11,000miles, on variable servicing. Now I've done 21,000miles and the service light's on again. I phoned 2 Skoda garages today, 1 hadn't a clue what they were talking about (Aberdeen) and the other thought that the wrong service interval was selected (Dundee). Personally I think the car's on variable service & it's just been used as it should be ;) So if my usage requires a 10K service interval I can change the oil myself without affecting a yearly dealer stamp!

Any thoughts / Ideas?

Cheers

Ewan

If you change the oil yourself you invalidate the warranty.

And variable time wise is every two years.

Cheers Lummox,

I spoke to Dundee Skoda today & they said that if I replaced oil & filter with oem eqmt, then I would not invalidate the warranty. Albeit they were expecting a garage do the work, but I don't see why I can't do this. I'm offering more protection for my vehicle by doing a frequent change with a high grade oil!

What happens with those that remap within the warranty period?

The stipulations that you must comply with to meet Warranty regs are...

You use parts made in the EU.

You carry out servicing as per manufacturer guidelines

You use a VAT registered garage,

A remap will invalidate your warranty,

Thanks for that,

What a pain, I could do the job in no time, just can't reset the computer. Was hoping that as some of these cars get older that some people would be self servicing...

It annoys me that your quoted 20K or 2 year intervals & I'm needing it every 10K or 6mths.

I could service it without it even affecting the service history.:irked:

Thanks....

I'd still be interested to look at the channels in your dash insert and see if it is set to variable.

If you have VAG-COM/VCDS or know someone who does.

Have alook in the VAG-COM forum.

Yes, I was hoping it was a case of disconnecting the battery for a few hours or something...

Phoned Skoda Aberdeen to see how much it would cost for just an oil and filter change £109 inc vat!!! The cost of oil and filter seem okay, even low, but they say it takes 3/4hr to change the oil, hence the price & it cannot be done quicker.

Pretty much right really.

We have to get the car in, get it on the ramp. Fill out the paper work inc body inspection, drain the oil, replace the filter and then refil, car off the ramp then drive to wash bay etc.

Half hour easy.

Hi

I would always reccomend taking the car off variable service anyway

I dont like it , never have done

One of the biggest shocks of my life when I saw about variable services on Octy`s

But then I always did discuss with customers in regards IF it was something they wanted

But I have seen the Octy taxi`s coming in every 20k miles and needing brake pads....... it is shocking that a car can go 20k miles or 2 years without a checkover

I do high miles and would ALWAYS get my car checked over every year or 10k
