This country is a joke!!!

The difficulty with these arguments is that you get personally involved - you see the individual, you know them, respect them etc. Imperialist history/home grown slackers are irrelevant. You have to look at the wider issue - if this is to be an autonomous country we have to control who lives here - difficult decisions have to be made and enforced. It doesn't matter how hard someone works - what gives the whole world and their dog the right to think they can come to the UK through deliberate abuse of due process?

And yes, if the UK became a basket case, I would consider those who fled to other countries offering an easier ride cowards who were shirking their responsibility and betraying their country.

Interesting reading, especially the bits about Britain causing some of the problems in the first place during our colonial days. The thing is, we moved on, some countries didn't and have been stranded in the middle ages. Should we try to help? yes but at international diplomacy level, not safe jobs here, that could be filled by a UK citizen seeking work.

40% of UK children live close to the poverty line, get that down to 0% and then start allowing immigrants to take advantage of our resources. It's a dog eat dog World, always has been, and always will be.

Zimbabwe has been independant from britain for a generation now

When they kicked the british out they were left with one of africas wealthier countries

Forward a generation

and its a right old mess

So its the british fault for being booted out of the country?

India, australia, canada, new zealand seem to be doing ok since getting rid of their british masters

on the same reasoning do you expect every german you meet to opologise for his countrys behavior during the war?The past is the past, cut all these 3rd world countrys loose, close our doors and let them sort themselves out.

Britain expected Germany to pay reparations for WW1 and WW11, perhaps the same argument can be used for "the British empire" ? Britain made use of concentration camps in Southern Africa so perhaps war crimes is another possibility to, although letting Kitchener loose in WW1 was probably a worse outcome anyway.

I agree about the control of borders, that is a states sovereign right, but the UK is not a true sovereign state any more, it is merely a province of the united states of Europe. The UK immigration policy is subservient to Brussels, and has no control over immigration from Europe, which is where the greatest problem lies. Once the UK is able to control its own immigration policy then proper control is possible.

So you are comparing the british being thrown out of zimbabwe

to

The nazis losing the second world war?

on another note concerning your posts

have you ever heard of the marshall plan?

Lets look at it from the countries inhabitants perspective, the end of discrimination and oppression, the right to self determination, the right to benefit from from your own countries resources, fighting a war to achieve this......... sounds a lot like when the nazi's where invited to leave France, Belgium etc. WW11 was important to Britain, but so is independence to its ex colonies.

Britain was a recipient of aid from the USA, it was an American plan, with American money, so what bearing that has on this argument I do not know.

Learn your mistakes from history then move forward or risk being left behind. As for the state of this country right now, some immigrants are returning to their home country on their own choice, the reason being, they do not like it here. Says a lot really.

I concur

So what has britain got to do with a country that gained independance decades ago?

surely it would be simpler just to nuke a few (all) inconsequential third world nations, then we will have less immigration issues, less of a world food shortage and less need for annoying begging charity adverts.

Why bother - cheaper solution is to let the Magabies of the third world have their way - then they can decimate their own country and those on their doorstep .

But who would we borrow all the money from then

BORROW ?????? - what have they got to borrow from. As an example - in the 80's ,my wife sent home Z$20 as a present to her neice .Her parents took it to a bank to change it - hours later the bank staff recovered from their fit of laughter to tell them that it was worthless .

Now we could borrow from Mr Magabies government - but how would we cash it - their currency is worthless .

I was being a little light hearted and trying to inject a note of absurdity into a rather heavy post………..I obviously failed.:(

1- If you work hard on yourself - you deserve success. That moral principle is being violated - point of the thread.

2- If you see people anywhere as different, get your mental eyes checked. We all are suffering for one reason or the other. We are more similar than different.

If you trace history back far enough, we can finally blame Cain and Abel for the wrongs of this time.

Mugabe has a narcisstic personality and massive ego - he's turned the breadbasket of Africa into the graveyard of Africa. This is not new, it was known years ago.

Had they had oil there, and he tried to assasinate George Bush Senior, it might have been a different story...

(trips getting off the soap box and falls into the Hyde Park Corner bushes....)

I worked it out.

Step 1 = Invade Zimbabwe and set up a small base.

Step 2 = Let the rest of the country choose to have the British govern them and have food and water or stay free and starve/die.

Step 3 = Repeat across most of Africa.

Step 4 = Cue lots of playing of Rule Britannia.

Would mean we could shift the chavs out of the country as "front line troops" ;)
