My vRS is dead!

Featured Replies

Picture the scene - boot full of wrapped chrimbo presents, just setting out on the annual trek to swap them over.

Perfect timing from the Fabia...

First time I nneeded boost on the journey, an almighty shudder. Thought I had stalled it.

Look down at the dash to see:

flashing glowplug light

engine management light

and the traction control light coming on to enforce a new rev limit of 2 and a bit k or 30mph. Not much fun when you're on an NSL dual carrageway...

Not a happy chappy. :(

Oh well, time to connect up a fault code reader and see what the score is. Hopefully NOT the turbo.

Boost pipe has popped off. :) Nothing too serious all being well. The clips are notorious for popping, especially on mapped machinery.

Yup, try having a look behind the drivers side headlight, thats a usual place, and also off the back of the turbo.

I had a look at everything obvious with the cover on as best I could. The pipe running up the side is fine, as is the top of the intercooler. I couldn't see the bottom of the intercooler, but there were a couple of spots of oil lying under it so I'm hoping that's what it is.

No smoke out the back and no burning oil smell or oil pressure light, so I think the turbo itself is okay... I can only pray there's no shrapnel invovled, as I had to limp it a couple of miles back home.

It's only done 20k and it's not mapped... :(

Well fingers crossed its just a boost pipe. If it is just pop it back on, job sorted.

Now with added video...

YouTube - turbo gone

definitely doesn't look like a popped boost hose.....

mines would rev all the way all be it very slowly with lots of black smoke and wouldn't have the glowplug light

Woah man - don't say things like that!!!

Could be a faulty pedal.

Fault code read is the next step.

Oddly, it's booked in on 5 January for the pedal - if you note it starts up and idles around 1.25k - which is the peddle being fecked. Then it settles down to what it should be after the first rev.

I'd be really interested to know what Skoda UK say if it does turn out to be the peddle as the dealer has been refusing to fix it...

When I was doing my conversion, I made the (unknown at the time) error of plugging in the vRS wiring into my old pd100 throttle pedal. I had the same tickover of 1250rpm, and it would not throttle up - pedal was totally dead. There is a potentiometer in it, which I suppose can go wrong like anything else mechanical / sensory.

There are two potentionmeters in it in fact ;)

And here's a video of the fateful event itself...

YouTube - turbo going

how come your videoing it?

I always have video running. It's to do with the mileage I do...

See? I didn't even spell it right!

Last week I was pulling away from a set of traffic lights, when, all of a sudden no power, and that juddering. I had no warning lights. So I pulled over, shut down, then started it up again to see if I could pull away, and it didnt even have enough power to pull away and just stalled. After calling out the RAC it turned out to be the boost pipe had popped off at the bottom on the intercooler. Pipe back on, with a new clip and some extra zip ties and everythings back to normal now. I had a frightful moment of thinking the turbo had gone though, so check all of the hidden pipework first

Skoda Assist have been. Cam position sensor is apparently borked.

It's now stuck in a dealer that I prefer not to use. They wouldn't take it to the guys I like because this other dealer is closer. Grr...

Woohoo!

Got it back today.

They claim to "have replaced a speed(?) sensor" but we shall see.

Booked back into my preferred dealer for other issues just after the new year - it's not having a good time of it at the moment.
