Removing back seat

Featured Replies

So how do you remove the backseat, the part you sit on? I'm interested in bringing that into the cause for a detail cleaning.

Uprights would be interesting too.

It's on page 74 of my manual. Fold the seat forward and undo the retaining clips. I haven't done it on my Octy, but I had a Mk4 Golf with the same arrangement and it's easy.

I'm afraid I don't have the manual, but I used to have a Golf mk4 as well, and the seats fold differently, so I doubt they're using the same system.

Lift at the front to release the seat base, then fold forward from the back. Push the metal brackets inwards to release from the hinges and it's free.

For the backs I thnnk it's the same as the Fabia... Release the catches and fold forward. Look at the uotside pivot point at the base of the back and use a screwdriver to push the holding bracket open (puch perpendicular to the pin). Lift the outside edge upwards and then slide outwards to release the back from the centre hinge point.

Cheers

I'll try that first thing in the morning as it's already dark over here. Sounds about right, matching my guess of where the latches are supposed to be.

That sounds pretty simple.

I've removed the bases a couple of times but was thinking I had to unscrew mounting brackets to take out the back rests.

If it is that simple mine will be coming out to save weight and improve performance/economy (I rarely carry passengers).

Hah. That was really simple. Just PULL like a mad man. Quite fun too, my neighbours thought I was going out of my mind.

I guess I could add some additional felt under the backseat to deaden sounds better, eh?

I took my bases out to clean the carpet underneath after being subject to carrying a hay bale - the bases weigh next to nothing - i don't think you would notice any differences in performance and/or economy TBH

I agree the bases weight next to nowt BUT I'm sure the backrests are good for 30-35 kg.

I'll weight them once they are out!

can you make a flat bed in octy-ii ? i remember seeing some TV commercial of octy-1 where a passenger was sleeping on a flat bed (could be combi?) in the back of the car.

Didn't realise you menat the full whack was going to come out - that should make a little difference

Stripped Cars are fun...

You can, but you need to order the variable boot floor (think that's what it's called) that includes an additional hidden compartment above the spare wheel well. At least, that's what you need to do here on the mainland, not sure if it's available there.

Yes, it is possible.

First you have to pull forward the rear seats and to rise them up behind the front back rests (may be have to pull a little the front seats forward too).

After that, you can fold the back rests, and you will have a flat surface (from front seats to back of the car).

No you don't, unless you have that floor I mentioned. The boot floor is slightly lower than the folded rears.

Right, I've been out and had a play because I need space for a sofa in the back tonight, and because I was wondering if stripping the thing out would save me a few quid in deisel over the festive period (1,000+ miles in the next week or two), with one or less passengers.

The seat bases come out in about 10 seconds flat .

The backs are retained by a single Torx bolt (3mm), which holds a bracket where the two sections pivot. Then they slide off a retaining prong at each side, a total of 30 seconds (or less) for each side.

The main problem is that the 60% side contains the centre seatbelt .This can be released by undoing a single larger Torx bolt (8-10mm?), but I don't have a tool for it

So I've had to leave that bit in, and secure it by re-attaching the bracket.

I also discovered that the spare wheel well was retaining large quantities of water (from when I had to transport live fish). Does anyone know the best way to dry it out? I'm thinking just leave it open, and let the a/c & heater do their thing.

There are plugs in there, so you can hose the thing off.

Yes, but they're not in the right place

Just had all the variable floor, carpet & spare wheel out, and been for a blast with the heating on max. Will go out with a towel later - why didn't I think of that before:confused::o

On another note, with all the heavy bits removed, the car definitely feels different - but my goodness its noisy! Quite a nice exhaust note though...

Plenty of old paper should do it, then. Cheap toilet paper or paper towels work for soaking up liquids.

I thought this was going to be the way

I've got a few days off after Christmas, so may well have a play with this!

I tried folding the backseats to get flat bed.

The good news is folding the seats is super easy, don't need any tools. Just lift the base and pull it forward and stack it up against the front seats. Remove the headrests and fold the backrest forward. That's it.

The bad news is it is not completely flat. The boot floor is about 2 inch lower than the folded backrest. Some simple padding can take care of it, though.

Where to hide the headrests? ;-)

My rear seats are currently back in at the minute but I've had a stripped rear interior for a while now and the difference is definately noticeable.

Be prepared for a lot more cabin noise. The backrests of the seats weigh quite a fair bit but once removed the car feels a lot more eager, and definately quicker. With them out, I noticed a few more MPG aswell :)

It's a bit of fun on wet roundabouts too :D

I've found in the past that a suitable size Hex key will fit in, and operate, a Torx head bolt.
