2006 / 2007 MY questions

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Think I know the answer to this but thought I'd ask anyway.

I have a maxi-dot display but don't seem to have the extended options available. Further, it was fitted with the standard Stream head unit rather than the MP3 compatible one.

I've got a 07 plate VRS, registered in March 2007. The first service in the book on reaching the dealer however is dated August 2006.

Is this therefore a 2006MY built car that sat around for a while and I'm out of luck on the maxi-dot??

Which extended options are you missing?

Lots of things from what I've read - anti hijack, welcome home lights, one click opening etc.

The only thing you can do on mine is set the speed warning :)

TBH it does sound like you've got dealer stock rather than a custom build. Have you got green brake calipers as IIRC they were changed to red for MY07?

My March 07 vRS was ordered in the January and was built to order so has the extra options in Maxidot and mp3 headunit, sounds like you're missing the Door Open menu and a few other options.

That said, all of the options can be changed by your local dealer with Vagcom (if they know what they are doing) or by offering beer tokens to someone on here. Welcome home lights needs vagcom to enable unless you had tunnel lights IIRC.

Interesting we have just bought a a July 2006 and it has red calipers. need to check what the maxi dot will allow us to set up. Welcome home and one click opening would be great!

Great car - and you have to check the speedo rather than wait for the shove in the back from most turbo motors!

The Stream headunit IS MP3 compatible, look in your centre armrest for the 3mm socket marked 'Aux'.

Can't help on the Maxidot I'm afraid.

Out of interest - what is the official date on the change of calipers from Green to Red?

Mine is a December 2006 and they are Red.

The Stream headunit IS MP3 compatible, look in your centre armrest for the 3mm socket marked 'Aux'.

The earlier headunit can't play mp3's off CD, whereas the later unit can.

My Octy vRS had a Stream without any MP3 capability, that was a MY06.

There is often an overlap of MYs anyway, its perfectly feasible to have red brakes but no extended maxidot for example.

I think there's a bit of confusion re MP3 CDs. The head unit can play MP3 coded CDs via it's single CD slot but not via the multi-disc changer in the boot.

The input socket in the armrest allows you to plug in an ipod or similar MP3 player and play it via the Aux input, but you will only have this socket if your car has the jumbo box armrest.

Interesting, I've got a retrofitted maxidot and I don't have all the options that you mention. Would surley like the anti hijack option :)

Ah, I sit corrected

Mine are green - quite pleased really as I prefer them to red. Would be interesting to hear the history of the car - it was originally a Skoda company car as far as I was told. but it does indeed sound like it was sitting around for a few months.

Might have described this incorrectly as it's nothing amazing but I think that's what it is called :) simply locks all the doors when you drive away. I had it in my 2008 Passat and quite liked it.

I think the MP3 compatibility was explained in the end but in summary:

The 2007MY cars can play MP3 files from the single CD slot in the head unit itself - they are also branded 'Stream MP3' whereas the older ones (as came in my car) just say 'Stream'. Neither can play MP3 files from the changer, more's the pity.

I think I'm correct in saying the AUX socket found in the armrest is again only compatible with the later Stream units.

Thanks for the replies, interesting to read. I've been toying with the idea of using VAG-COM at some point so I'll enable the maxi dot stuff at some point.

Let me know if you figure out if say anti hijack should be available through the maxidot menu :)

It is if you have the later version of Maxidot, i.e. the MY07 onwards version.

Not with all of them. Pre MY07 the Stream was not MP3 compatible and there was no socket in the jumbo box. There is an easy way to find out, if the head unit says 'Stream MP3' on the front then you can play MP3 discs, if it just says 'Stream' then you are out of luck and cannot play MP3's without an FM tuner or replacing the CD changer with a iPod connection.

If you have a stream MP3 but no jumbo box you can wire up yourself a aux socket and put it in the glovebox for less than £10. It is covered on this forum if you search Note: This does not work if you have the old Stream non-MP3 headunit as the aux socket is not enabled.

Does the car need auto lights and wipers to have the welcome home lights option?

No, it can be turned on by somebody with access to vag-com. Access afterwards is through the maxidot menu. For some reason it's only turned on from the factory if you have auto lights.

Thanks, looks like I need to donate some beers to someone local with Vag-com.:)

im not sure i understand this maxi dot-if i remember rightly i was told by the dealer when i ordered my car that maxi-dot came as part of the jumbo pack, all i can get seems to be MPG, Temperature, average speed and time driving. is this maxi-dot or not because some of the options you guys mention is completely new to me.

Maxidot doesn't come as part of the jumbo pack, at least it didn't when I ordered my car.

Maxidot looks like the panel in between the speedo and rev counter (sorry VRS_STU, copied images from your website :o)

Non Maxidot has the dash below (again, sorry VRS_STU :o)

Mine is a 2007 and doesnt have the above in the maxidot, however since enabled with vag com i do have the welcome lights in maxidot menu but ive never heard of anti hijack or one click opening being in a maxidot menu (these are vag com enabled stuff iirc).

Sorry mate, but MY2007 should have the functions in the link below, includes single/multi door opening, anti-hijack. Although, agree welcome home needs vagcom to enable if you don't have auto lights.

Maybe you have a later registered 2006MY the same as me then? Do you have red calipers/MP3 head unit etc?

Pauls car is a sport so no painted calipers.
