ambient lighting

Featured Replies

allways thinking of new things to do to my octavia 2, i was a bit bored so i thought i,d fit some red ambient lighting to my interior light. i drilled 2 6mm holes in the cluster and fitted 2 red leds, earth and a switched supply from the back of the light switch and hey presto it looks like a knocking shop from amsterdam.

the pictures dosen,t really do it justice , leaves a warm red glow over the ashtray area without distracting you from your driving.:)26425.attach

nice pics any part numbers or a write up?

Do you not find the LEDs a little distracting at night? the OEM ambient lighting unit has the LEDs recessed to prevent them distracting the driver.

Red is definitely the colour to go for irrespective of the dash lighting etc.

Looks good actually, better than I expected.

Like dstev2000 said though, was there any way of fitting them in a recessed stylee?

they are recessed in the holder, of which only the holder slightly protrudes. £7 worth of leds and a bit of time verses buying a w8 light cluster for approx £45 and having to spray it black, i know which one i,d go for......

Well of course, and a great job it looks too

fireblade as said above please do a little write up!

cheers :orb_cool:

You could certainly pick up the power for the LEDs from a dimmed source, like the light switch, and use a more recessed style holder.

With the facelift Octi it will be even easier, as it has backlit buttons up there.

I fitted ambient lighting to my last Audi A4 sport, Contrasted brilliantly with the fish scale aluminium inserts around the gears stick and ashtray.

I did have the problem with them reflecting in the rear view mirror at night but didn't nother with it as I soon got used to ignoring it.

Think it cost me 8 pounds of ebay for the LEDs, and wiring along with instructions.

First thing I retro fitted to my A4. Luckly you can buy the parts for the B7 A4 as an oem fit.

I'm sure my mate's golf has something like this as standard.

anyone any idea if the Volkswagen and Audi oem parts will fit the octy?

Might see my mate who has a 56 A4 and see if the light fitments are the same., it'll be an easy upgrade if they are.

Don't think the b7 Audi parts do. Let me find an internal pic of an Octy II

On my MKI Octavia i fitted one into each map light, with the added benefit that they are invisible until the sidelights are turned on.
