Custom Boost Pipe?

Featured Replies

Hi guys i have had the problem of my boost pipe popping of (at the top of the elbow coming of the IC)

As ive researched the forum it seems that even to get a new one will not eliminate the problem forever as the joints are poorly designed.

I was just wondering if anyone has made a custom pipe out of Samco hosing and stainless tubing?

If u have, pictures would be great as i have access to a pipe bending machine at work ;-)

Cheers

Harry

erm i have this? available from vrsdovit.... give him a pm

That looks good Jas!

Hows it running? Everything ok with the pipework?

yeah pipeworks all good and no boost leaks :D

Do a search mate - I made one up ages ago - after forming epoxy "lips" it has withstood max pressure of the TD stage 2 no problems...

Also makes a great place to tap a Water/Alky injection nozzle into....

Yer Jas that is exactly wot im looking for. I may make my own as i have access to free titanium, aluminium & S Steel piping and a bending machine that allows me to bend any profile ;-).Do u notice any more power having a better sealed unit?

Basil-Im a bit of a dumby in the engine dept, but wat is an water/alky injection nozzle?

Thanks

Harry

I know you asked Jase - but I did notice some extra power and faster spool-up. The OEM connectors are carp IMHO and likely were leaking at higher boost levels...

Lucky you mate - having access to that equipment - all you do is take off the OEM stuff and copy the shape (roughly is ok) and leave an extra 2-3" either end. If you have access to a lip-rolling machine then you're way ahead of us mere mortals....

Did mine out of SS and insulated it from the engine heat....

Silicon hoses complete the upgrade...

Sorry but the alcohol/water nozzle is part of the Devils Own Alcohol/water injection unit - it acts like a massive intercooler on demand as well as supplying more fuel...

Good Luck

Yer i can put a sort of beeded lip on it, if thats wot u mean, to make the SS to Hose even more secure?

Just a few more questions. On jasons, where the hose joins the turbo, is that (Allard) pipe needed. Or can i just use the standard one

What diameter stainless should i use? same as the standard pipe?

And when u said leave 2-3", did u mean on the SS pipe?

Sorry to ask all these questions.lol

thanks again

Harry

What size silocne hose it it for the Allard pipe to this pipe?

Alex

Beaded retaining lip is what I meant. Without it the hose does pop off even held with heavy duty hose clamps - once I formed a bead around the ends with epoxy, it was solid as a rock. The oil vapour from before I did the elephant hose mod (see guid section) made the SS very slick indeed.....

Been a while since I yanked out the EGR valve - you want to get rid of as many OEM connectors as possible to be sure.

I used SS exhaust pipe - matched the OEM diameter - cut 2-3 inches longer at both ends to allow the silicon hose to attach onto. I dont think you get any benefit out of wider pipe. The OEM connector elbow can have the steel ring on the end ground down and then removed (you do the same to the other end when fitting the Allard pipe).

It's basically just plumbing, replacing the weak link which is the OEM connector itself.

Forge did mine - it's OEM-sized at one end and has a funny flare at the other to fit over the oversized Allard pipe. They know full well which one fits...

Allard tell you in their instructions to cut the steel ring of the end of the EOM elbow and then stretch it over the Allard pipe. It is extremely difficult to do, and an OEM-sized silicon hose elbow doesnt stretch....

Hope this is clear - I'm washed after a busy day at work......

silicon pipe is 57mm diameter

Ok, so where do i get one of those allard pipes from.lol

And jason u said that its 57mm to cover the allard pipe, so i take it u used the same size ss tubing cus the original is 2" isnt it?

hmmm im unsure of the size of the ss tubing used in mine... i just bought it from vrs dovit he would be your man to pm as he got them made up... but i thin it would be 57mm...

allard pipe was availaible from allard but think theyre in a bit of a mess at the minute... they've changed names etc... so try jabbasport for an egr bypass

Or gut out an old EGR valve for the end fittings to the intake manifold. Alternatively you can make up a flange copy of the end (milling) out of some plate metal and then TIG weld it onto some SS tube.

(I'm lucky that I have a mill/lathe and welding equipment in my toolshed). Still bought the Allard pipe, just out of convenience...

Yer i have seen that they have changed names, has anyone used the company recently?

I used Allard not too long ago.........took them over a week to get me the pipe then i found it was incomplete.

I dont think i'll use Allard again but many on here have been happy

Ironicly i moved sections in work today, and now have access to a lazer cutter. If i were to fabricate my own EGR bypass pipe what material do u reccomend?

Cheer

Harry

I'm get my delete kit from jabbasport, ordered it yesterday:)

£49.99 then £5 postage. jabbasport do two dfferent size kits 57mm and 60mm

What material do u suggest for the EGR bypass pipe?

And does the flange have to be as thick as the allard one above??

Cheers
