Continuing waxing after 3 mnth gap. How far back do I go?

Featured Replies

I gave my Silver Mk1 Octavia a really good clean in September.

Washed it. Dried it. AG Bumper Care on all the black plastic. AG Super Resin Polish, then Clearcote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze. Then one coat of AG Extra Gloss Protection.

I was fighting the weather & it took me about three days to do, as it kept raining & I had to re-wash, dry etc. I intended to do two more coats of EGP & then three coats of Blitz wax but I just never got round to it. (The car hasn't even been washed since September! :o)

My question is: How far back down the process do I need to go before continuing with the EGP. Wash, dry & maybe Moose Glaze ('cause the car smells really nice for about two weeks after :)). Or do I need to polish it again?

Thanks

Darren

if its good wax thern you only really need to wax it once every 4-6 months, a quick top up wax should see you though to better weather then spring time strip it all off and start from the AG SRP & AG EGP etc.

I'd say that you're applying in the wrong order.

The wax should really be the last coat of protection, EGP is designed to go directly over the top of SRP and if you layer it then apply the wax.

When it comes time to freshen up the wax layer then the sealant(EGP) should still be present.

Once a year then strip off all protection with something like a paint cleanser then do correction and seal and wax.

Depends on how much it's grown back in the meantime :P

Steady on Nick, showing a sense of humour in 2009, whatever happened to that resolution :P

OP give it a good pre wash/ soak, a good wash 2 bucket and then 'feel' the paint, if you can feel a lot of rough contaminants then it needs claying and starting from scratch, if not then applying a good coating of wax will see ou through to spring :)

Yes agreed; but as I understand it the Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze is not really a wax but a glaze. I thought this should be done prior to the protective layers???

You've just reminded me; I forgot to mention in the OP that I 'clayed' it before the SRP. I've heard it on here & Detailing World often enough but I was still amazed at the difference it made.

You've seen the car then. It used to be silver, now it's more of a 'light grey'. :)

Thanks for the replies.
