VRS rear tail wash not working

Featured Replies

Hi All

I took skippy in for its annual service last June and was told that my rear wash wipe pipe had come loose in the back of the car and the garage re attached it. It has now stopped working completely. Does anyone know where these pipes are and can i fix the pipe?

Thanks

Robin

The pipe just pushes back together. the joint they are talking about is behind the left hand boot carpet. However what can happen is when you reconnect one another pops off so id operate i and see if you can see any water coming out in the boot or behind the tailgate panel.

Also might be worth checking that the nozzle isn't a bit blocked (causing increased pressure leading to the pipes blowing off their connections).

How do you pull the carpet up and which bit? I ask as this has just happened to mine/ guess it froze and popped off under pressure when the jets didn't work. There is some coming out the rear jet but not much.

This happened after the very cold freeze we have.

Found with mine that even with the standard 50/50 mix wash was freezing up -had to add some neat to stop it .

Rear joint is on passenger side behind rear seat .Front joint is on engine side of bulkhead under(ish) abs control .If it's coming out of rear one -the pipes are still connected (i would think),probably just a blocked jet or partially frozen .

Cheers for that I'll see if it clears. Might have the hair drier out at the weekend.

I think that UK screenwash is weaker than a remember. Standard mixes of the off the shelf stuff are only good to down to -7, then you're going to have to put it in neat.

Anyone know somewhere where you can get strong stuff in bulk without buying in vodka by the crate? :)

Boughts some Holts High Performance from Costco today (it's about £8.00 for 5l), it's good to -16 at 50/50, then -32 for neat!!!

Stupid question but whats "neat"?

neat = non-diluted, concentrated

= straight out of the bottle

Great, found my jacket and shoes in the boot stunk of washer fluid. Looks like the pipe has blown off my rear washer somewhere in the rear left of the boot around the LHS of the folding cover. Looks to be damp between the CD changer and the rear seats.

I guess I'll have to get to the pipe. Has anyone got guidance on how I get to the joints in the rear washer pipe? I understand they are behind the covering inside but have never removed that rear area before.

this appears to be a common issue, can the joint not be strengthened with some tie wraps.

I'm thinking super glue.. when I find where the darn junction is :)

Mine has come off from the front just behind the brake pipes right on the bulkhead (if you know what i mean) as is a right pain in the *** to push back together

It's a common problem on VAG group cars that are fitted with fan jets. Easy fix, just clean jets with plenty of water through system then refill using VAG screen wash for fan jets!! It's not particularly expensive. Any of the stuff you get from halfords etc seems to block the jets in time and the 1st thing that happens is a pipe comes off and leaks everywhere.

Again.. marvellous. the jet had popped off and was busy washing the rear N/S rear quarter. I've taken shots of my misery to help others find the darn pipe.

To anyone with a jet that doesn't spray Stop using it, it's probably filling the boot!

As others have said undo the baggage handle, drop the left 1/3 back seat then pull the rear carpet down. The water pipe is cleverly right next to the junction boxes in the rear just towards the boot behind the LH rear seatbelt winder.

As in my opinion it's a stupid place to put a friction push joint I've super glued the fitting. Theory being that the two connectors there are pushed onto the pipes anyway so could be disassembled if needed and there's another failure point junction in the engine bay.

Now I've got all my winter gear to dry out, a tow strop that smells of alcohol, a spare wheel that's nicely washed, a floor mat that's soaking and several areas of carpet that need drying out.

If you look in one of the shots you can even see a puddle of green washer goo behind the CD changer panel.

I've dried out the spare wheel, are there any collection points in the chassis that water might have also gone that I should look at?

I'm off to find some massive bags of silica gel or a dehumidifier to dry the car out. :)

:) Thanks Guys - Will have a look later i don't think its leaking inside though can see nothing on the rubber matting in the boot (Purchased with the car to protect the carpet!!!!)

Thanks again

If it's leaking the grey carpet will be damp under the CD changer and just below the C pillar. On yours that'll be under the rubber mat.

potential rot spot this to look out for in the future, due to shortsightedness in designing the washer pipe feed.
