Fitted an XTE-2005 Faceplate today.

I also purchased a Pro RJ11 ADSL 2+ cable.

Attenuation has dropped from 49.5 dB to 46 db and downstream has increased by nearly 500 kbps.

One happy bunny :)

I've always had one of these: Clarity :: ADSL Filtering...

The best part is I don't have to mess around with filters everywhere....

ahh - didn't realise you were on ocuk as well ;)

You can tell by the username :)

So where did you order yours from?

Seen them on ADSL nation for just under £12.

Yep, ADSL Nation.

Make sure you get a decent RJ11 cable too. That alone gave a 200 kbps increase.

Looking at the faceplate...

For fitting is it just a case of unscrewing the old one and putting the new one in? How much wiring is required? Am I likely to screw up the phone line and socket?

To install an adsl filtered NTE5 faceplate (XTE-2005):

  • Remove the 2 screws holding the existing faceplate on to the master socket.
  • Carefully remove wiring from existing faceplate.
  • Lay wires over the following pins on the new faceplate:
    Pin 2 - Blue w/ white
    Pin 5 - White w/blue
Pin 3 is for the ring wire and does not need to be connected.
  • Using a punch down IDC tool or Krone Inserter, firmly push down on the wires so they are secure in the IDC terminals.
  • If necessary, carefully trim any wire overhang "tails"
  • Secure cable with the round cable post using the supplied cable tie.
  • Screw new faceplate on to the master socket

If you don't have any extension wiring in the house, it's a two minute job.

Cheers gilly, not so worried now. I may get one once BT have decided my address exists and aren't going to charge me £127 to activate the line...
