power wise either do just a remap or go whole hog with rebuild and bigger turbo as the in between steps are pointless and cost the earth. Gerry, Des, Stuart, myself and many others have done them and tbh the cost simply isn't worth it. £400 gets you from 180bhp to 210-215, then you spend a further £1500+ easy to gain another 5-10bhp, simply not worth it.

better brakes: stick to standard discs, uprated fluid and better pads unless you get some brembo'ap's cheap.

suspension: bushes are alright but unless yours are knackered i wouldn't bother, ARB's i can't really say on as my 4x4 came with a rear arb as standard and i haven't fitted my uprated ones yet :) but stiffer dampers wouldn't go a miss as it doesn't really need going any lower as you'll only hit speed bumps.

another great mod if you don't mind spending a couple quid is if your getting the clutch one get an LSD in there, power is all well and good but if you can't put it down then why bother?

HTH.

how much is the clutch?

Iv took some advice to put this on here

ok i have a 2003 octavia vrs had it just under a week and im hooked i want to modify it and have £1200 to £1500 to spend on it straight away but dont really know anything about the car or the mods avalible for it any ideas/surgestions are welcomed many thanks!!!

Start with a major service inc cambelt & water pump and fixing anythng that's broken.

then move on to a remap (you can get a DNA files one from a company on ebay for £99) and a full front end poly bush kit, with poly engine mount and ARB mount bushes too. If pushing toward 100k or in doubt, new genuine track rod ends/lower ball joints complete the job with a 4 wheel alignment. As part of it also have the rear bear bushes done - also poly.

This and a rear anti-roll bar will transform you drive.

yea mate done air filter oil filter and oil change next is cambelt and water pump car has under 50k miles iv been told that the dna remap aint that good and a custom remap is where i should be spending my money

Mine keeps up with a 350Z as she sits lol :)

Wont keep up with mine, someone fitted a couple of Turbos before I bought it, a mere 480 bhp ;);)

Custom remap every time if you want the best out of the car, maps arent all the same & with maps you cant see what you are buying. The rule you get what you pay for is even more important with maps.

A proper custom map includes a rolling road run before the car is mapped, this ensures the car is performing correctly & runs afterwards to check power gain & how its delivered. Any map should make the car quicker but a custom map will give the best that can be achieved.

Beware, your cars done 50K & depending on how its been used to date the remap might bring the demise of the clutch closer so ensure you can fund this if needed. With a custom map the torque can be backed off slightly if you want to extend clutch life. If & when it does look at the costs of an uprated clutch as well as the like for like replacement. As well as many upgrades fitting the Corrado G60 clutch is a cheap upgrade & perfectly adequate unless you are looking to tune the car further, it also retains the feel close to the std clutch wheras many upgraded ones will give a harder pedal. Avoid carbon clutches unless you are going for big power as they are horrid for a daily drive, mine on the zed is an absolute pain in stop / go traffic

Totally agree with Bengie on this one, and I know from experience and the expense that went with it, that it just is not worth it to spend what we all have in the pusuit of what are pub figures.

I was lucky and mine always seem to make good figures on what ever rollers it went on, and was still a good every day drive, as I am sure the new owner TrevorB33 will confirm, "BUT", as before, on normal daily driving, when can you safely use that type of power and performance without losing your license?

If you really want to make it go without going down the GT28 route, then the cheaper option is via the KO4, equal length manifold and LSD route, that gives you a good every day drive with 280 bhp when you need it for track days, but what do we know?

yea, you hear the engine more as vibration is louder but i would say it is worth boing. i think if you do it it can put less strain on the engine mounts as it doesnt move around as much.

correct me if i am wrong.

if you look at my long post I have put more links in of were to get stuff from. when I got mine it they were the cheapest I found.(6 month ago)

No increase in vibration if you use supple bushing. I have used the tdi 'no vibration' rear and solid front SuperPro dogbone bushes and while considerably stiffer than stock there is absolutely no vibration/rattles at all. But the 'slack' in the drive & engine control is way better.

Greg.

i got hte powerflex one as it was half the price of the superPRO. it does give bit more vibration noise but not too much. I love it all the same. depends what you want.

Good call:thumbup:

G40 clutch and single mass flywheel fitted is around £6-700 i think.

alot by the sounds of it lol my concern is the cost i have a max of £1500 to spend on the car like i said its for everyday driving so dont want to go crazy or hurt my car by over moding but still want it over 200bhp 210 215 will do me fine now can i do this on my budget?? without hurting car!! your wisdom in this matter would be appreciated :D:D

uses alot of my budget mate will eat into wheels fund

yes it does but my my single mass flywheel and G40 never slipped and never complained once and that was running on a 4x4 estate at first standard, then everything apart from big turbo(exhaust, fmic, intake, remap, coil overs, brembo's, tip, boost controller, bushes etc etc) and then running a slightly bigger turbo(gt2x kit) including trackdays, launches and hard road use. an amazing clutch kit in my opinion.

best bet really is to put some away and then add to it over time and basically save for when your's needs doing rather than shelling out and binning a perfectly good clutch :)

personally i really like the standard wheels on the octavia and and awesome with a different finish be it graphite/gun metal/black/white etc.

and 215bhp will be fine on your car and you don't need a £300 intake, DV, tip and exhaust as all this will gain very little power for a big outlay.

Right think i know where im starting got the blueflame exhaust orderd - Good Man :)

Baily DV30 or Forge 007P Dump Valve need to look into this more? - Im getting the Bailey as Ive used Bailey's for years and quality is very good as is customer service. Alot of people on here use Forge as thats what recommended

Coil Overs of some sort again need to look into it more? - Coil overs won't be needed for the road. The Koni's I mentioned would be fine and cheaper.

SuperPro dog mount bushes - Recommended bush for this site. I can supply these if needed ;)

Disks and Pads thinking of getting groved Disks just for the look - Just get some of the Mintex stuff off EBAY. Cheap, but very good. No need for massive brakes unless your braking late for every bend or consistanly driving fast. My Esc Cos has 330mm AP's and my Skoda has 312mm standard. I use both with the same effect as I rarely brake hard.

ARB - My Skoda handles ok for daily driving. I would on upgrade the ARB's as/when the bushes go or I have spare cash.

and then a Remap - On a car like this only a standard remap is needed IMO. Going for custom map is a waste of time /money if done by a professional (Around £500+ for a decent map). Most these cars will see is a new exhaust, filter and many very slight other choices. These will make hardly any difference in how the car drives or acts (Will make it quicker, but very slightly). A standard remap will change the how the drives/acts which tbh won't make much, if any difference over a custom map. Get a remap done and have the car setup correctly! Don't waste cash on a custom map unless your changing engine internals, injectors, turbo or wanna run more boost (Like 15-20psi).

Wont keep up with mine, someone fitted a couple of Turbos before I bought it, a mere 480 bhp

Thats what my 414bhp, 0-60 in (Proven) 3.94sec Esc Cos is for ;) The Skoda is my daily drive and isnt a girls car ;)

a lot of maps run 20psi on these cars :)

Bengie, what do they run as standard? and what do they run after a re-map? :)

i think the vrs runs about 10-11psi and the 150 engines run about 7-8 psi as standard but they tend to go upto 19-21psi remapped quite often.

Didn't think they ran 10-11PSI as standard. Don't feel like it lol My Esc Cos runs 35psi :eek:

I still wouldn't bother with a personal map for the car unless I had too much cash to waste or I changed something significant like the turbo.

God this is hard choosing what to do and in wich order lol so much choice didnt have this much to choos from when i had my renault 5 tubo back in the day lol :)

Flat, choose what yo think is best mate :)

Do you want:

1) A nice driving, nippy car that you can enjoy driving

2) To go racing round the bends

3) Stop as fast as you can

My recommended mods are for someone to improve their cars drivability without going OTT and blowing everything up or being dangerous.

Most other people have recommended suspension and brakes cause that would be sensible if you drive your car flat out everywhere.

Choice is yours mate, good luck :)

as for wheels i like them but want 18s, saw an octy with audi tt wheels on and they just stand out alot more and looked good against the red plus my wheels are curbed to bits.

The bloke i baught the car off had already baught his new shape octy vrs and his wife was using this one.

The engin is sweet but the interior and wheels left alot to be desired (why i got it at a good price)

But after alot of elbow grease and foam cleaner the seats look ok going to get them steam cleaned to bring them back to new

wheels have had it though!

boost pressure doesn't mean anything though really, what turbo is your sierra running?
