My New Superb Damaged

Featured Replies

To put your mind at rest for the parts, the doors are only available complete in primer and not as a skin. Make sure the repairer orderers new seals that go round the doors as they are stick on. I had the pleasure of ordering an O/S/R door for a Superb II recently and when it came to the door seal, it went on back order for a few days.

@ Stu, you're correct there with the pre delivery damage, I misjudged an LT van many yrs ago and reshaped it around the rear light, so that went for repair before being sold, and a few Polo's that were finished in black managed to smear/circle up so bad when polished they also went for paint before they were registered.

As others have said it is good to see some honesty in this world. I would not be too hard on her either as I am sure she does not make a habit of running into cars as she parks. We are all human and have the odd lapse of judgment etc.Maybe she was having a bad day and mind was not fully on the job or something else distracted her. We all have these little lapses from time to time and should not be shot for it!!!!!

Also this claiming for everything is what is putting insurance premiums through the roof. The car will have lost no resale value due to this little knock so trying to claim for it is ridiculous!!!!!

Common sense & decent values

Of course you will end up rewarding stupidity in the process but whatever!!

:)

Not quite, she'll pay back in terms of insurance premium.

It's great from her... I'd even go for flowers myself :)

Ouch! Looks like a nasty mark on the car.

At least she admitted to it and didn't just drive off like I guess the majority of people would.

So !!!!!!!!!!!!! Is she pretty ????

if yes :wrthless:

Lol !!!

Many thanks Keith for that info. I will call them tomorrow informing them of that as they may not be aware of that point. Will any other items required apart from the obvious?

I don't believe for a minute that you can honestly say it will have lost no value due to accident damage. If you were faced with two cars to buy would the fact that one was accident/repaired not have an influence on your decision? I know it would on me.

A good repair using OEM parts and you should not be able to tell that any damage had been done, especially because complete doors are being replaced. Taking the above example, both cars should look the same. The accident will not be recorded on any register, and anyone doing a HPI check or simillar will get it back as completely clear, therefore no value should be lost at all. You will be suprised at how many cars that are for sale have been in accidents, as posted already some have been in accidents before being registered and delivered as new to the unsuspecting first owner who thinks they have a nice new car.

To be honest, I'll bet it would cost more in labour to reskin the doors.

To the OP: use a good bodyshop with Skoda approval and you'll not tell afterwards.

If it was repaired properly and expertly, how would you know it had been through the bodyshop?

If you are asked by a potential purchaser either private or trade then if you didn't answer honestly then it would be fraud. Drummond 28 sounds like an honest soul too so I'm sure they think honesty is the best policy. It will show up on insurers databases too will it not?

I think something like 1 in 5 cars are damaged prior to first registration but I'm sure someone will correct me on that.

In this case, unless both cars were absolutely identical (which is highly unlikely), then it would have no bearing on which car I would pic. In fact if the car that had not been damaged had more stone chips or scratched alloy then I would choice the repaired one. I would ask what had been repaired and inspect it to make sure it is good. But as long as the repair is good, and knowing it is only a new door then would be no issue. For me the almost expected car park dink we all seem to suffer from (why can people not open their doors without hitting another car!!!!) would have more of an impact on value of the car than this minor repair.

Compensation is there to compensate for an actual loss and not for a bit of extra money, fund your next holiday or 'come out ahead after an accident'. So many people seem to see an accident as a licence to print money/pay off debts!!! I have no problem with people claiming for genuine loss and no amount of money can ever make up for a serious injury/loss

And I will now get back off my soapbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you PMS, I think the term is betterment( I thought it was a made up word originally but seems not) the point of an insurance claim is to put you back in the position prior to the incident at no loss to ones self if not at fault. Hence covering cost for time off work, solicitors etc.

I'll stick by my guns though and say that repaired damage that I knew about would be a deciding factor when purchasing a car.

Do you need to get your soapbox back out?

I think I will leave my soapbox where it is!!!

We both have the same basic principal but have slightly different ways of applying it. Neither is right or wrong just different.

:)

Sorry to see the damage to your car Drummond. I had a similar experiece exactly one week to the day after collecting my Supreb 2, same colour as yours! I was at the front of a 4 car shunt so came off with the lightest damage, just a small dent in the rear bumper and a piece of paintwork the size of a 5p piece missing. My insurers are Norwich Union, and they have their own body shop close to my office, the car created a lot of interest when I took it in, as they hadn't seen one before (can I claim to be the first to be clonked ?). They had to fit a complete new bumper and the work came with a 3 yaer guarantee. When I got it back you couldn't tell it from a new one, perfect match. I'm now recovering the excess through DAS, as I have that cover in place.

I hope you get it sorted OK.

By the way I've now got 7500+ miles on it and I am very, very happy with it.

Perhaps its time to add "I damaged my New Superb" register :D

Glad to hear you are as happy as I am with the New Superb. 5000 will be on the clock by the end of the week. My opinions so far......I Love it. I will send in pictures of the repair once it has been done. No firm date yet. Also rang the Body Shop today and reminded them about the door seals as mentioned in this thread. Now I know what a helpful and great bunch of Guys n' Gals we have on here.:)

Perhaps its time to add "I damaged my New Superb" register :D

The car and its damage will not be recorded on any register, insurance or otherwise. The only cars recorded on these are ones where the car has been written off.

how someone can do this???

i hope for you that after repair it look like new...

  • 1 month later...

Hope the car is all fixed. Thanks for posting the pics of the car as I think thes are the first ones I've seen of a supurb in my 1st colour choice of Storm Blue Metallic. How easy is this colour to keep clean?

Update: The car is going in for repair on the 9th of March and they want it for 2 weeks. At last the saga is coming to an end!! The total estimate is £3000 this includes repair to all the paintwork including scratches on the front bumber which did not show up in the original photos, new doors etc. The car then has to go to the main dealer to have the parking sensors to be reset along with the mirrors etc on the dealers computer. Then the Diamond brite paint protection has to be re-applied. I had the car hire company call me to tell me I was going to have a Chevrolet Matiz 1.0 SE to be getting along with. I politely told them to contact the insurance company and to tell them they could stick it where the sun dont shine. As the innocent victim of their insureds negligence I was just not prepared to do 1000+ miles I would be covering in that time . I have now been offered a choice of a Chrysler 300c or a SAAB. I will keep you posted on how things are progressing

How easy is it to keep clean. I dont find it too bad to keep clean. Of course at the end of the week it is dirty but a wash down by hand soon brings the shine back. As the car has the Diamond Brite paint protection it is easier to clean too. I love the colour and it is the 3rd Superb I have owned with it. I get a lot of complimentary comments. I hope that helps
