Thinking for painting the reflector on rear lights

Featured Replies

I am thinking for colour coding the reflectors on the rear lights of my RS race blue.

What do you think.

Pics attached

Nope not for me i'm afraid. May just be the pic and might look better in the flesh but i think it would be right up there with the Race Blue MFD surround i did. I.E. Chavvy  :P :D

No, no, a thousand times no!

Well, I don't like it anyway.

how about the legality?, looks ok, bit Max Power stylee

If they are colour coded then how will they reflect?

The reflectors must by law reflect back as red, colouring them an alternative colour is therefore illegal.

As the vRS has a second set of reflectors in the bumper, legally is that all that is required?

you dont need a reflector in the lights on the RS as the rear bumper has reflectors built in to it. So it's still legal

I suppose technically yes, but you will need to permanently block the other one with solid paint because to reflect back the blue will be illegal.

It would be painted race plue so it wont be reflective.

So, we've agreed it is probably legal to do, but please DON'T DO IT!!

Don´t do it, it looks horrible

how will the paint adhere to the plastic?

Utterly pointless

Er, no.

Is the centre a reflector anyhow?

If it is why bother with the ones in the bumper which have always looked a little out of place.

Maybe it is, but that won't stop it looking carp.

Chav-tastic

The facelift model doesn't have reflectors in the rear light clusters, they are now in the lower bumper - vRS style.

The bit that used to contain the reflector is now clear to freshen things up a little, if anything, try and make it clear but don't colour code it.

Someone been taking too much Lemsip to have this idea?

Please dont do it, else several hundred vRS owners will be selling up as it would seem the chavs now have them.

Count me in with the firm "No" camp - but it is a free world and your car ;)

I think your right guys, so I wont be doing it. I was 50/50 on the idea just to try something different.

Just waiting on my Whiteline rear arb to arrive now to tidy up the handling:D

Fit the facelift tails if you are going to do anything.

Fit the facelift tails if you are going to do anything.

Yeah, that's good idea and not that expensive

Regarding the legality of this dubious enhancement;

According to the Road Vehicle Lighting Regs the rear reflectors must be a minimum of 350mm above ground (that is to the lowest part of the reflector).

The bit of the rear cluster in question is definitely the reflector on my 06 Elegance. How high from the ground are the bumper reflectors on a VRS?
