service interval

Featured Replies

how do i tell if my car has been put on variable service interval or fixed ? when i look in the maxidot at teh service screen it tells me 8800 miles to next service. considering i have only had the car 5 mins and done 500 miles then this is odd. I was lead to believe they come from the factory with the variable service interval longlife oil. In my last car (A6) the variable service took us about 15k between services. I guess ot could be the fact that the engine is tight and new and the "sensors" that predict when the service is due are not giving a true picture yet ?

any ideas / comments please ?

It tells you in the service schedule. The superb is set on variable servicing.

ok. but i was told it can be either fixed or variable, my choice. its just that 9000 does not seam much for a variable interval.

If you want it on fixed just have a word with your dealer.

It could be that the car hasn't yet worked out the correct interval. How many miles have you done?

On mine, the indicator didn't show anything at all for about the first 1000 miles, but is now saying service in 14200 miles or 664 days. So, that makes 18600 miles between services for me.

It sounds to me like it could be on fixed. Only way to be sure is to get your local dealer to plug in and check. Alternatively, do some more driving (say 1000 miles), and see if the distance to service goes up. If so, then it's got to be on variable.

bagpuss - spot on !! its was set on fixed interval not variable. the supplying dealer had cocked up and not set it correctly during PDI. I went to get my memeory seats fixed and mentioned it and they changed it. it now says 14600 or XXXdays (cant remember exact number !)

Had the same issue witht he variable service interval with my Octavia. If I remember there are 3 possible settings: from sligthly variable to fully variable. The fully variable I understand is purely based on the info the ECU gets from the many sensors around the car. The dealer was advising me that fully variable is very dangerous as for example a breakpad could wear down on one side only and not be detected by a sensor. I beleive that if Skoda give the option, they are standing above it and have this option type approved, so no unacceptable risk to the driver. When I took delivery of my Superb, I made sure they changed the setting to FULLY variable, rather than just variable. The proof they gave me was a printout from the ECU.

Safe driving, Franklyn

After 2300 miles or so mine now says 12600 to go, so like yours the total mileage set in there seems to be triggered at around 15000. Will see if mine changes its trigger-mileage when I do more longer faster trips

my old A6 was on variable and is a similar engine. we ran it to 90k and service intervals were consistently 14k-15k.

On mine the indicator wasn't showing anything initially. Now it displays 12xxx miles. As per the dealer, I'm supposed to bring it in for servicing after 10k.
