Skoda engines

Does any one know if the 1.9D engine used in Felicia is the same engine as the 1.9 Sdi used in Fabia nd Octy?

I "suspect" so, or a newer generation of at least. The PD TDIs I guess are something totally new, as the felicia model never got given a TD engine of any kind.

Yes it's 63hp, the same as the current SDI, though for some reason the 0-60 time and top speed are far better when it's in the Felicia!

Power/weight ratio per chance?

Yeah Felicia was still a bit Skoda'ish, if you know what i mean, not all that much VW Imput so I guess it would have been lighter without those solid German Mechanicals!

I don't know about the figures, but they do not translate into reality. I have driven a Octy 1.9 Sdi as a loan car while my vRS was having clutch pedal problems sorted. The SDi was slowish but livable with. Last night my curiosity got the better of me and I took the Felicia 1.9D Gli for a test drive. It seemed like it took 10 minutes to reach 30 mph! So I would have to guess that the Felicia 1.9D engine is not the same as the Octy 1.9 SDi.

It's the same engine but the SDi has an electronic fuel pump assembley and direct injectors where the Felicia had old style mechanical injector pump.

William,

The Felicia you drove must have had something wrong with it, I ve driven quite a few and owned two and they dont feel underpowered.

A Octavia 1.9SDi would certainly be left dead by a Felicia 1.9D which is hardly suprising seeing as the Felicia has the same power and torque but weighs over 300kg less.

Psion5,

The Felicia had a large amount of VW input, especially the models with VW engines and running gear. Have a look under a 1.9D Felicia bonnet and it is the same as the VW Polo's right down to the last pipe and sticker as is all the switchgear, steering wheel and all the mechanicals bits and bobs.

Probably a higher percentage VW input than a Skoda engined 1.4 8V Fabia.

The Felicia had an Indirect Injection diesel, probably the lowest of the low as VAG 1.9Ds go.; the SDI is a direct injection diesel. Totally different cylinder head.

Yep the Felicia unit is indirect injection and uses a mechanical belt driven injector pump that controls the fueling and timeing. The SDi unit has a direct injection head with electronic injectors, fueling and timeing are under ECU control.

Power and torque of both units are near enough the same but the fueling of the SDi unit is far more finely controlled.

The difference in economy is massive, the Felica has a combined Economy of 44mpg, the heavier SDi Fabia does 57mpg.
