Strange dealer behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Im looking at buying a Fabia VRS and saw one local to me advertised by an independant dealer. I went to go and see it without telling the dealer and when I arrived I saw it round the back. When I went into the office, the dealer told me it wasn't there. I said "yeah it is, I've just sen it". They then told me it was going away to have a new wing as it had been in a bump, she then showed me the car and sure enough it had a bump in the wing, nothing too bad though. The tyres were also bald so she said I couldnt test drive it and to come back next week.

So I came back a week later and there it was, complete with bald tyres and bump still in place. The dealer wasnt there so I left and wondered what was going on.

I then rang them later that day and they told me it had gone?!?!? WTF?

So I left it...

Then I got a mate to ring just now and they have just told him, its still for sale.

What would you do?

i think maybe the car was in a bump and wasn't claimed on insurance so they want to repair it before anyone sees it and say it was pristine!! looked after by one old lady..blah blah blah and because you asked about it and saw it they think you'll want the price bumped down!...whereas your mate they think he hasn't seen it!

I thought that too. So what should I do?

The interior was one of the filthiest I have seen and the brakes looked very rusty.

It also should have had 2 services as it has only done 14k miles and is an 06 but it only had one.

Walk away. Imagine how it is going to be if you have a used car warranty problem. Also bumped by previous owner with bald tyres, not exactly been looked after then has it.

The bump was really only cosmetic, no scratch just a dent. They told me they'd be putting a new wing on it... I wondered whether the xenon headlight would have been effected though as it was near the very front.

Yes but if the interior is filthy, and it's only had one service, it's been neglected. It is your money, but really you should look for a better example. IMHO

Just walk away mate, seriously. If they can't be bothered to put the effort in to sell you a car then are you sure you want to be dealing with them?

i really wouldn't touch it if the interior is really grotty and just generally looking shabby for that age!!

how much were they looking for?

I totally agree with you, I was just amazed at how weird people can be. A well priced ind. dealer car on an 06 would be £7600, and this one is sub £7000, its just the fact it was so close to me, had xenons and was cheap... but now I know why it was cheap.

Sounds like a dodgy dealer to me.

As sayed, i would just leave it.

Here we go. Look at the lies:

Auto Trader UK - SKODA Fabia 1.9 TDi PD 130 vRS

1 Owner - Lie (it had 2 and the next would be the third)

Immaculate Condition Inside and Out - Lie (one of the worst interiors I have seen - paint was full of swirls)

Full Dealer Service History with Warranty - Lie (1 service in 2 years is not a FSH)

Yeah I would steer clear if I where you.

But if you really are keen on that car because of the spec then get it inspected by the RAC or something and make sure you get a HPi report.

If it has had only 1 owner before the dealer bought it, it will have only had 1 owner.

When a dealer/garage buys a car im sure they fill in a part of the V5 so that it doesnt add another owner, could be worng though.

I've been lied to and they obviously don't want to sell it to me, so why should I cross their palm with silver... ;)

I just hope someone else doesn't get spanked.

At least you have put out a warning to potential buyers from here that it has been in a bash.

Glad I saw this, was on the verge of travelling to look at it in the next couple of days. Thought it was a bit strange that there were no pictures yet. Phoned earlier and was told they would be on the website either today or tomorrow.

Im glad you saw it too. I think they are holding out for someone who hasn't seen what a state it was in. I phoned the supplying dealer in Bradford who told me about the servicing, apparently the garage its at now have "given it a service", but I would be dubious as to what oil etc they have used. Most of the wheels were kerbed too.

Pictures now up. Looks in good nick. Bit worrying really.

Notice as well how they didn't show any 'overview' shots to show the whole interior, but focused instead on odd angles missing large sections of the seats-presumably because they are manky!

The bumped wing was on the passenger side, they even emailed me today to say its for sale and ready to be driven away... You can see the wheels are manky in the photos. The brakes were also very rusty

As a non-techie I would have thought this was a bit of a bargain. Shows the value of this forum.

For them to lie to me and say it had gone when it hadn't, and then my mate ring up and they say its still for sale, and then them email me and say its ready to be bought is really weird.

You can see some staining on the drivers seat in the photos.

Can anyone see what tyres they have put on it?

Kidd, I live near Preston and was enquiring about this very same car.

They told me it was in valeting, and kept telling me for about 2 weeks, then I gave up on them (she), as it hasn't been taxed since last August according to the DVLA. I knew this was the car as soon as I started reading this thread. She never called back when she said she would also. Looks like she's got this shed in an auction, then thought she can polish it, valet it, then get it out. They were also going to service it themselves, so they've probably put some bad cheapass oil in too.

When I rang she was quite short with me, and asked if I was the guy who rang earlier trying to part ex a VRS with 105,000 miles... Was that you lol?

Steer clear of this, it's a mess. Much better out there for £7k.

KIDD - I see you're in PR1? Why not try Simpsons in Preston?

Yes, thats me. Obviously my money isn't good enough for her. She offered me £900 for ours which I sold for £1350 last week. She can sing if she thinks Im buying her VRS ;)
