VW Jetta

Are they any good?

Seen a nice vw approved one for 10k, 1 yr old with DSG, 2.0 PDi engine.

I like the look of them, sort of a small executive car i reckon.

Its basically a MKV Golf with a boot ;)

lol. you don't say.

From looking at the approved vw and approved skoda selection on the net. It seems to me as though i could have a year old jetta se with dsg for less than an octy elegance???

I think 10k seems a good price.

I am looking at all sorts of cars again, as i seem to do every weekend. But this has been brought on by spinning my mx-5 a full 180 today. I thought i was going fairly steady but i ended up facing the way i came on the other side of the road. If i had meant to do it it would have looked quite good. LOL

The Jetta has never been a popular car in the uk, with the golf taking the crown. They are cheaper because they are very hard to sell on when the time comes and therefore depreciation is very high. Ask yourself how many Jettas you see out on the road, and I guess the answer will be very few.

Thats a fair point.

Still like the look of them though. Just a mini passat i guess.

My mate had a bora for a number of years and loved it. He traded it in against another vw so i guess you could always do that if it was a problem selling.

I think my mx5 is going to have to go, just not sure when. Its great in the summer but a nightmare at this time of year.

Have to say, I've seen a fair few since they were launched... not as many as the bog standard Golf, but more than Octy II VRS's and Fabia VRS's

At the end of the day buying any car is a money drain these day's, it seems a reasonable price for a very good spec'ed car, if you like em go for it

How much would a similar age/engine/spec BMW 118d saloon cost ???

I like them a lot, but I've always been a fan of booted cars

Not sure, but i really don't like the 1 series and i am not overly keen on BMW full stop.

The 1 series looks like a shoe imho lol

I may go and have a go in one, not driven the 2.0 TDI so that would be a first anyway. It seems like quite a slow 0-60 time on these but i guess its not bad for a diesel. Lots of torque though 320Nm i think.

What can the 2.0 Tdi be remapped to ???? ;-)

You get all the tricks like the additional heater on the Jetta.

Nice cars and drive really well.

additional heater??

That's my point... and how much more £££££'s would it cost?

As for remapping, if it's a 140bhp 20TDI then you should see 170bhp easily

The freaky thing is that the jetta has a bigger standard boot capacity than the passat.

additional heater??

Handy for the diesel, electric in cabin heater.

i know it's a bit off-topic, but i allways liked the vw vento, i tried to find a vr6 one but they are so rare because of the fact that the golf was more popular.... but when they do turn up on the likes of ebay they seem to fetch a lower price than the equivalent golf model

Not from what I've seen!

Owners of Vento VR's seem to want the world for them! You can pick up any Vento for less than a grand, closer to £3,000 if you want a VR :thumbdwn:

And the same spec Golf VR would cost a lot less.

Fine car, buy it, better looker than a Golf imo.

I agree. It looks sleeker imho.

The golf looks a bit like a high sided vehicle lol.

The only thing that will scupper it is what i can get for my mx5. I don't think i will get much part ex. Was hoping for 3k but i am not sure i will even get that nowadays :-0

If i could get 3k against the 10k jetta then it would be a goer on the vw solutions pcp deal.

Going to clean the 5 this am and pop out later to the stealers.

Don't px it, MX5's are sought after, even if you have to lay it up till May you will sell it easily enough, it's a bit of a dealer's dream car, they know they won't have it long if they take one in.

Been to my local vw dealer. Had a go in a 2.0 TDi sport. I really liked it.

However. The trade in price for my mx5 was hilarious.

They offered me.........................................................

£500

Its worth more than that if i break it for parts. lol

It has got to be worth 3k looking at others i have seen for sale, import or no import. 54k miles and a good spec.

They said it was because it was an import etc. But i am just not having it.

If it was a uk car the sills would be rotten or welded by now.

Going to try with some specialist mx5 dealers. Failing that will wait till spring/summer and try and sell privately.

As i left the stealers i dropped the hood and caned it all the way home and loved driving it again. I guess i have got a love/hate thing going with it at the minute. Loved it today as it never tried to kill me lol.

Ring and ask what they will sell for if you don't px.

And they wonder why they aren't selling as many cars

My sister just got 2K in p/ex for her MX5 1.8is, 1997 mk1 vintage. She exchanged it for a more practicle 2002 Focus zetec.

They reckoned as it was an import no one would have it. Its just rubbish imho.

The imports are generally in much better condition than a uk car. There is no rust at all on mine. Hence the reason i bought it in the first place. The price may be slightly less i guess but i think they are taking the pi55 to be honest.

I called the place i bought it from as they do buy mx5's back from people they have sold to.

Gave the guy the details and he is getting back to me.

Spoke to another dealer who reckoned a UK w-plate would only be worth 2.9k part-ex so its not looking good on that front either.

I have no doubt that when the spring/summer comes my car would be on the forecourt for 4k, i thought that a dealer may have snapped it up, sat on it for a month then banged it on their forecourt.

Here's how to do it, if you can get 2k for the car elsewhere take that and try to get 1k off the screen of the Jetta, this way you still effectively get 3k for the Mazda.

I agree.

Been offered 2-2.5k trade in against a 10k jetta on an 07 plate. Still under warranty til march next year. 2.0 tdi with dsg 24k miles. Thing is that its a year older than the vw approved one and has twice the miles. I do prefer the colour though.

Pretty sure the dealer would go to 2.5k after talking on the phone. I said about the "cost to change" and that i would give hime 7k plus my car but he wasn't having it. I said i would leave it with him. lol

I will phone the dealer with the approved jetta and ask about a cash price for it. My only concern is that they would probably prefer you to use their finance rather than cash anyway. I reckon they will not move on the price even if i have no trade in and pay cash. But we shall see.
