VW Jetta

It's getting near month end and you might be able to get the deal you want if they need the sale to help this months figures.

Had a look on pistonheads and Dandycars (mx5 importer) had one up exactly the same as mine for 5.5k, even had the same milage. It says sold on the advert now. I know that it won't have sold for 5.5k but even with a grand off it is still more than i am asking lol.

Put an ad of my own on pistonheads and also on mx-5.com.

See, and the VW dealer wouldn't have known that either  robbing theiving ****s, I remember getting offered 5k for a Vectra I'd paid £10k for 16 mths earlier in px a couple of years ago, anyway it didn't get that far as it was written off a month later by a DD'r, insurance wrote it at £7300, that's £2300 more than the px price offered, and had I took it at the time the Vec would've hit their site at £7999, 3k profit to them if I didn't know how the MT works.

I like the Jetta. Know someone with an 06 2.0T Sport and it's very nice. Very stealthy way of using the TFSI engine too :D

Good luck on the '5 private sale. TBH, you've asked to trade-in an imported convertible in January - you can blame them for trying to put you off ;)

I bought a 2.5 year old Elegance Octy for £9K (with DSG, 2.0TDI PD140)

10K for the VW is an excellent price, though getting cars of that spec isnt difficult, there are certainly a few Octy Elegances at this spec kicking about for 9-10K

Least you're not buying a Golf. Everyone wants a Golf. Yuck.

I've seen a few Jettas and it's a nice looking little car. I prefer the practicality of the hatch but I'd look at a Jetta, better value for money than a Golf.

Could not agree more. The boot on the Jetta is huge anyway, big enough for most things without needing a hatch. If i did then SWMBO's scenic would get drafted in.

I hate to say it on here especially, but i much prefer the look of the Jetta to the Octy II.

If all things were equal i would pick the Jetta. Having said that if i could get a well specced year old Octy II 2.0TDi for less than 10k i would be tempted. The quality of the 2.0TDi sport i drove at my local VW stealer was exceptional.

I could go and get a Jetta tomorrow form a non franchised dealer, the monthly payments on the outstanding amount would be exactly what i had budgeted for. But if i get 3k for my 5 they will be 10 quid less than i budgeted for which is what i would be most happy with.

Think this will probably be an obvious answer to this but you never know.

Would you go for a Jetta in SE spec on an 07 plate for 10k

or

an Octy 2 2.0 TDi in Elegance spec on an 06 plate for 10k

I realise the Octy is probably bigger and more practical. But it seems a lot for an 06 car. When i had my 53 plate Elegance i paid 10k for it and it was only a year old ?????

Jetta for me. Although I do prefer the dash in the Octy, the Jetta just feels a bit more special.

Thats what i think............ i think. lol

Seems a more special car for the same money but newer?

Which surprises me. Don't get why a 3 yr old octy is up for so much.

Surely if you are so undecided that you have to ask other people's opinions, you can't be that convinced by either of them.

It's great to get other people's opinions, but at the end of the day it is their opinions.

Why not wait until you find something that you really like ?

And they wonder why they aren't selling as many cars

Exactly - the Skoda dealer I almost bought a 54plate Octy from last July STILL has it for sale now!!! They would not shift on the price and lost the deal. Now it's on for 1k less and I bet they still have it in 6 months time! I paid a little too much for mine but it was a pristine car and worth it. If you find a car you like and can afford - BUY it. Offer a silly low price. They can always say no and you can walk away. You know they ain't gonna sell any time soon. Go back a week later and offer them less as cash if you can. I just might work. Nothing is selling at the moment. It's your market now.

an Octy 2 2.0 TDi in Elegance spec on an 06 plate for 10k

..is way too much! There is the one I mentioned above on a 54plate (2005) with full leather still on for around £7.5 You could bite their arm off for £6.250 I recon.

On a 54 plate it will i assume be a MK I or a very early MK II, so go forward 2 years and 10k is not that unreasonable for a Mk II car.

Going against the grain after my earlier post, I've just had a look at my local Skoda dealer, Horton Skoda in Lincoln and they are currently showing the following :-

57 plate Octavia 2.0 PD TDi Elegance estate - anthracite metallic - 18977 miles for £10995

and

56 plate Fabia VRS TDi - silver - 18456 miles - one owner £6995 (was £8995)

Just a thought

I have to say i find these comments in no way constructive and also a little condescending.

I trust you have posted a similar response in the thread about Mondeo TDCi v Octy Tdi?

I think it is pretty clear from this thread that i would like a Jetta, and also having now driven one i am even more keen.

This forum has loads of threads with debates and comparisons of one sort or another.

Such as :- "which wheels/remap/springs/dampers/colour/gearbox/stereo/ etc etc should i get?"

Thats is what makes this forum so good. But judging from your response they should just make their own mind up and then we would have half the threads on the forum that we do now.

The octy v jetta post was merely to try and demonstrate that it would appear that the Jetta is actually the cheaper option when based on age/miles/price etc.

Reading the posts following on from this it seems mosrt people understood that. Hopefully i have now cleared this up.

Also, i would never pigeon hole myself into ridgidly getting ANY specific car. I find it is nice to have options. If you don't then fair enough, its each to their own.

That doesn't sound too bad, if you wanted an estate obviously.

Not sure exactly what equipment extra you get on the Elegance against the SE spec on the Jetta though. I think maybe bigger wheels???? Does dual zone climate come as standard of the elegance these days?
