So...what does my alarm sound like then?

Featured Replies

I'm ready to be corrected, however I'm under the impression that the vRS comes with factory fitted immobiliser & alarm.

Now the alarm is one of those things that you don't even know is working until you need it.

The morning you wake up to find your car broken into, everything inside stolen and you know for a fact that no alarms sounded that night is the time you realise it isn't working.

Also I must admit to not immediately jumping up the second I hear a car alarm going off to see what is going on - but for all I know it could be mine!

So, to the questions:

1. What does the vRS alarm sound like? Tough one I know, how to describe a sound, but any efforts greatly appreciated.

2. Save from locking/arming the car and lugging a brick through the window is there actually any way of testing the alarm?

3. If it can't be tested, is there a "safe" way to set it off without causing physical damage to the car?

Ta

Leave you window open then lock the car. leave the car alone for a min or two to allow it to arm then reach in the car and it will go off. You can then listen to it for as long as you like, or till your neighbours get mad.....

P.S did you know if you leave your windows open and lock the car, then keep the remotes lock button depressed the window all close. Cleaver stuff.

I know this works on the Mk2 (new shape) model unsure about the earlier one though.

Good luck!!!

I got my son to sit in it and wave his arms about after I locked it :)

To be honest, I found the alarm to be rather weak :(

The alarm went off in mine yesterday evening because I had not fully pulled the cover over the estate section into the closed position. When I went out the cover was open and that was enough to trigger the alarm.

The alarm sounds crap :mad::thumbdwn:

My mobile phone is louder

And guess what, the alarm tone can be changed to a louder one via vag-com :)

Use the key to open the door then open the door. After 30second you will hear the alarm

You have 30second to put the key (like if you want to start the engine) or you will hear the alarm.

Odd!!!! I only close the cover on mine when I have stuff in it. Otherwise I leave it open to show that there is nothing to nick. The only time mine has gone off was when I left the dogs in there and forgot to turn the motion sensors off!

Yeah, mine's open most of the time to show there's nothing in there and mine's never gone off.

ditto (and my dogs weren't happy about it either)

And you can set it up (via maxidot or vcds) to fully close the windows (and sunroof) if it starts to rain (if you have a rain sensor behind the rear view mirror), and also can close or open all the windows with the remote. I'm currently using that a lot at the moment to let all the hot air out when I come back to my wagon after parking it in the Oz sun at 39C for a few hours.

My alarm goes off when parked if a big truck goes flying by :o

If you have the alarm there should be a button or two on the driver side B pillar about 1/3rd of the way up on the black plastic trim. It's there to disable the interior sensors.

You can change the sound of the alarm using VCDS/Vag-Com. There are two versions

1: Rest Of World Alarm Tone

2: UK Tone (Which I Beleive To Be Weaker Acoustically)

1st question: why do we have our own crap UK alarm sound?

2nd question: is the 'rest of world' jobbie that much better?

I've seen the option in VCDS but never tried it in case it goes nuts or something

Why wait 30 seconds? Just open the door with the key, make sure the whole car is unlocked, then open the back door. Goes off everytime!

Anyone got a recording of the alarm after vagcom alterations? Oh and a screenshot or list of where to find the option?

If there's no recordings I'll try it and test it myself :)

I might try it myself next week, the job I will be on is literally in the middle of nowhere :D

Yeah, what do tell my dealer to change the alarm tone as he'll more than likely say it isn't true?

And while i'm at it, is there any way to switch off that annoying beep when the outside temp drops/below 4.0 degrees? I hear it every now and the and start frantically searching my dash to find out what's just broken!
